Just searched Gearslutz and found the BRA rant.

Most companies would just refund and cancel the purchase - this really reeks of narcissism.

I also wonder if there's something in the EULA that lets them do this - because it actually kind of sounds like theft on their part. I'm not saying that it's ok to game their system - it really isn't - but I wonder what would happen if someone sued them after getting "removed from their platform".

Post

I think BRA were genuinely surprised and shocked that anyone would 'cheat' given their already generous offer. I would have felt the same.

Providing refund and explanation would have been the way to do it, yes. The way BRA dealt with it I wouldn't say reeked of narcissism, thats a bit much no? The guy was offering a very generous deal (Im repeating myself as I put that comment in that post at start). No need to turn BRA into a bad guy over this issue.

FWIW I picked up BRA Magnetite via a Focusrite deal (in itself amusing as I disconnected my Focusrite interface years ago, but it’s the gift that keeps giving) and couldn’t get much out of it, far too subtle an effect for me I thought, but when I tried it in series with XLN RC-20 it was a revelation especially on deep bass.

Exactly what i was thinking. I think that guy was trolling or something. Company are much more likely to worry about people using cracked version of their software and are probably very happy to have paying customers. Now i don't want encourage people to be tool liberal about this either but getting bann really?
I wasn't trolling. Here's my source:

All I was saying is to keep this in mind - just a heads up to you guys. I did not accuse BRA of anything other than to imply they responded to a similar thing very heavy-handedly previously, albiet it was a much deeper discount being gained. They did not seem forgiving. I thought I should mention it to help inform people of what they might be potentially getting themselves into (trouble). That was my intention - not an anti-BRA stance.

I like/love BRA products - don't worry.

I have three and a half thousand posts here. If I was a troll don't you think I would have been banned by now?

I have to say i feel bad a little for using the code as it was heavily discounted already. But I'm ridiculously broke right now and didn't want to miss on the deal. Plus I'm only interested in one of the plugins so i guess it even things out.
What ever!

One year Ableton f'ed up their upgrade and all was available super cheap. A few lucky souls got in quick for bargains before Abes sorted it out, they honoured the transactions and didn't accuse anyone of anything.
I was one :)
Me too!

Just read the BRA post, valuable heads up, thanks for sharing S and MB. BRA seem very disappointed in that post. Folks can simply read and draw their own conclusions

I haven't read the BRA post, but if it's true that they took severe action against the people who used the code inappropriately, I think that's not right. I once used a code for the full bundle of Samples from Mars without knowing that it wasn't intended for the general public. So mistakes happen and BRA doesn't have the full story for every case.

On the other hand, people are trying to rationalize their using the code in a way that is clearly against what BRA intended and that's not right either. BRA is a small company and plugins don't code themselves, servers don't run for free. Not trying to lecture anyone, because I've messed up myself, but let's not try to brush away the consequences of our actions.

so I read the BRA post.. and I absolutely understand being upset about the situation. however, what I don't understand is why they don't just fix the discount codes in the back-end of their store? surely you can limit usage to certain items / exclude bundles / only allow one code at a time? typically online shopping is a game of discount codes and vouchers, so when I found that they stacked it didn't seem like I discovered anything malicious. that being said I would rather pay the proper price than be banned from their system. the deals are still good, and I am enjoying the plugins so far.

I think they were donating some of the money to charity, which also may have been a part of their disappointment.

I'm guessing a number of people used it before they discovered the ability to use more than one code. They may normally allow the multiple discount on top of a normal sale discount.

Post

Back then it seemed to be an oversight, that they gave out private codes which could be applied to the whole discounted bundle. But this time they gave out the code knowing it can and will be applied to everything. So it's a different situation. Also they offered 70% off on black Friday, which is about the same. And the code's still working, so if they'd be not ok they'd already said something/had deactivated the code like in the GS post.

Post

That BRA rant seemed a bit naive. One, we always see people wondering how to combine discount codes here--it's been that way forever. Two, some of these plugin and soundpack sellers have skewed the norm on discounts--how could we ever know we went too far in getting the cheapest price? 90% off? Come on. That is such a cheap, insulting marketing tactic. They think we are that stupid, that we'll just think, wowsers, 90% off, what savings, got to get in on that one, no brainer . . . The first time I saw Samples from Mars for 97% off, I thought, who is dumb enough to be swayed by these BS pricing schemes?
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

:o  most people here wouldn't have bought at least half their smack if it werent for the discounted price tag.
Id say the "bs pricing schemes" works rather well :clown:
