Yes, the Ozone one is nice and very flexible (more bands since a combination of several Pultec modules). But, maybe, also have a look at these:

1. Not a straight model (but a mixture between Pultec and API designs). It is, however, great sounding and even free:

2. Also free and soundwise still my favorite are the discontinued NastyLF and NastyHF by Variety of Sound (I also own the Pultec sim from IK but prefer these).

They take ages to load and I do not know if there were ever AU versions available (I suppose you are on Mac/Logic). But the soudn is rewarding.

You can find them archived here:

Thanks for the help. I'm leaning towards NobleQ and Ozone Advanced

If you go for the Noble, also keep @Ploki`s advise in mind and check/compare with the Blackroosters; just saying, as I was in the exact same situation & finally went for the BRA #pultecs.

For which tasks you use Pultec?

Master and submixes mostly

I use pultec style eqs just to brighten an individual track or two here or there. Broad EQ stuff that could benefit from added character. I find the summit audio softube emulation is also great for that type of use as well

One of the most 'overlooked' yet still very awesome 'pultecs' might be the Ozone Vintage EQ; people just dont get it, because it doesnt look like one.

IIRC It doesn’t saturate at all so it’s just curves (like softube)
You are actually right; circuit - modeled but without the distortion, so basically just the curves, yepp. https://www.izotope.com/en/learn/4-uses ... dules.html
the tube tech by softtube or the uad one which is coded by softtube, bc I feel the latter introduces saturation. However I own the Izotope but I was thinking to get the softtube tube tech but without distortion its kinda pointless :S

NobleQ is seriously smooth.

redacting my previous statement: it saturates a little - just not very much. (softube)

I tested it right now with the UAD legacy version and the softtube one.

Uad saturates and boosts volume about 1 to 2db just by switching on. Ozone Vintage ew does nothing by switching on (stated by izotope - they just modeled the curves.) The softtube tube tech did nothing as well upon just switching it on.

However now the real interesting part: I recreated the EXACT SAME saturation (by ear) of the UAD Pultec with the Ozone Exciter by putting it into tube mode: 4,2% amount and boosting the output 2db. However this was just down by the „switching on“ saturation. if the saturation changes with actual eq work it might be different but I tested it like this bc I used to run my (techno) low end bus through pultec eq just for its tube saturation and my take away for this is, that UAD isnt that unique anymore like it was once and noe I finally can move out for their eco system o//

Ruletech is my second favorite my first is the new pa betttermaker plugin

Well tubetech adds A LITTLE - try it with a sine. But it’s really really low level.
But yes, most of these EQs are curve modelled with added saturation at some point in the signal.

The pultec clone in studio one ain’t bad either
Eyeball exchanging
Soul calibrating ..frequencies

I'm surprised that very few mentioned the free PTEq-X by Ignite Amps.

Don't underestimate this gem just because it's free, the curves and the saturation options are top notch.
