Which amp sim(s) would you turn to?
I suppose it depends on what kinds of sounds you are looking for.
Don't need effects (have pedals) - just need a good base clean and half-convincing medium gain. I haven't found anything in Amplitube that sounds good to me. Maybe I should just stick to mic'ing tube amps.
Neural DSP stuff is great. I'm selling Nolly at the moment, i can cut you a deal if you're interested.
When it comes to simple, no-nonsense, no bells and whistles, but very solid sounding amps, TH-U is amazing too. I first got the Rock Edition, which is only a couple of amps, cabs and pedals + their rig-player. You can buy extra rigs - they sample amps, kinda like a Kemper would. Some of their rig libraries sound absolutely bonkers. I have no idea why TH-U doesn't get the recognition it deserves. The base models of the rock edition are amazing too. Take a listen before you decide Neural DSP is for you.
TH-U is a great option. You've got top of the line modeling plus a form of profiling similar to the Kemper. A few of the companies that sell profiles for Kemper sell the identical ones for TH-U (Choptones, Big Hairy Sounds, Live Ready Sound).

I use Neural Abasi for some high gain stuff but for me TH-U is the best. In 2020 profiling still gives a more realistic sound than modeling, if authenticity is the goal. With TH-U you get the best of both worlds. Neural seems to be the good looking new kid in the school that gets the attention at the moment though.

There's a 50% off sale right now according to
https://www.reddit.com/r/AudioProductio ... d_effects/

you can get 50% off ($70.50) with code: PLINI50 and there's a fully functional 2 week trial too.
No-one's sure of the end date on the deal currently.
Thank you so much for the heads-up on this deal. It wasn't mentioned in the Buy & Sell deals thread (pretty much the only place I check), so I would never have known. I decided to get it and I think I will wait for a Nolly sale too.

well, it better be f amazing. considering a variety of great and often affordable options available today and a hefty price tag NI will surely put on it (Guitar Rig 5 is still priced 199$, even though it belongs with mammoths fossil), it better be something.

I'm skeptical. think this will be incremental. I don't see NI changing the game as far as amp simulation is concerned. I'd love to be proven wrong, actually, but think this will be a BIAS clone, at best.

Yeh, I feel the same (although I hope I am wrong)- I have Helix, Amplitube and Scuffam (Guitar is may main instrument) so GR6 will ned to be really good to get my interest- I use Helix most of the time.

Ah, hadn’t heard, cheers for the link. I’ll definitely upgrade from 11 if Noire, Super 8 and GR 6 are included.

yup. agreed. there are just a lot of guitar sims on the market. one needs to download and try the demo of GR6 first. from the looks of it, NI gave it the GUI revamp using the same new GUI libraries they used for Raum and (maybe Massive X). Let's hope this isn't something where it doesn't launch standalone and you need to load Reaktor or Komplete Kontrol to use it. That would kind of suck. (@Mario!!! )

So basically its just the old GR with a new GUI, 3 new amps and the effects I already have in Komplete.

Looks like a very weak update after all of these years considering where the compotation has gone.

You decide:
HELP DECIDE WHAT COMES NEXT
Our new way of modelling hardware gear means we can more easily add the types of amps and effects that our community wants, and everybody’s welcome to pitch in.
Let's see what they make out of it. Anyway, will wait for the next 50% KU upgrade. Maybe they added some nice amps until then....
