This is great. Thanks. And thanks for taking the time on that preset folder thing.
On a number of Macs

Post

Just wanted to say, thanks again for creating this awesome synth! Tons of features, and I'm still blown away by the workflow, more intuitive to use than so many other synths I've worked with.

Post

This is great news!
I'll check it out these days and report back in case I find any issues.

Also very generous of you to decide to make it open-source :tu:

(aaand fingers crossed for a VST2 version :D)

Weasel-Boy just informed me that there is a problem after upgrading for Mac users, where you cannot save presets anymore.
Note, this is only after upgrading, not by doing a fresh reinstall. If you have this issue, open a terminal and issue the command

Code: Select all

sudo chmod -R 777 /Library/Audio/Presets/odin2

imho this path is not correct
(there is no "Presets" directory within the "Plug-ins" directory)
it should (imho) rather be:

/Library/Audio/Presets/odin2/

i had no problems with this path

Thanks for that correction. I don't have a Mac at hand, so I can't check!

Version 2.2.3 beta
I've seen longer delays, even within a single piece of music. Thanks again for all your great work on Odin!
TheWaveWarden wrote: Mon Sep 28, 2020 7:29 pm This version has a lot of changes under the hood. If no major problems arise, this version, along with the source code will be the official release version. Yes, you read that right, Odin2 is going open-source :D
Is the source code available anywhere yet? I couldn't see anything either on your own site or on GitHub. (Where else does one look for code these days?)

I haven't been around for a few days and just saw this. OK, I tried the Terminal pathway correction and this is what happened: It completely removed the Soundbanks directory...rendering Odin's entire preset manager useless.

But....but....I had a complete backup of the Soundbanks folder (with the factory and my user presets) on another drive. I copied those over and now Saving works correctly. My advice to anyone on a Mac about to use the above Terminal command is to make a copy of the Soundbanks folder (Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Presets/odin2/Soundbanks) and put it somewhere safe before running the Terminal command.

REMOVED?? :o Are you sure this was due to the command??? Actually chmod should only change file-permissions, not remove anything. Maybe you somehow removed read-access for yourself? I thought 666 would only omit execution permission?

Post

Directory has to have execution bit for traverse in.

This is why I stick to the old fashioned syntax of things like "a+w" to add write permission for all, instead of trying to look cool and use octal.

(A few years since I've actually used a Mac; from memory, it works the same way as Linux.)

Ok then, thanks for your explanations. I fixed the command above.

Sorry @Weasel-Boy for the troubles, glad you had a backup :)

I am right now making final adjustments for the code to be released on GitLab. The next package will be release, which includes open-sourcing, a new version, a promotion video and some social media PR. But I guess it shouldn't be too long.

If you're really keen, I can give you access to the source beforehand.

No rush. I'm just curious to see how it all works, not going to make anything amazing out of it. But thanks for the offer.

Version 2.2.4 is out!

This is the release version. Official release date is tomorrow (friday). Release will be accompanied by a pretty video to promote the synth and the open-sourcing of the code base.

You can greatly help in calming my fears for tomorrow by installing the new version and briefly reporting back here that everything works as you expect it to

New Features in 2.2.4

Fixed Legato once again
Envelopes in Legato weren't carrying linguring notes over to the current ADSR section, but to the attack section. This is fixed now.

ChipDraw Tables now available as LFO waves
Might come in handy to create some more complex modulations. Keep in mind that the chipdraw (and wavedraw) waves are being processed for use as audio oscillators. This means edges might be smoother and the removal of constant offsets. What you see is not (exactly) what you get here.

XY-Pad movements can now recorded by hosts
Thereby making these pads actually usefull for music production

Added background fill to display of WaveDraw and ChipDraw waves
Minor eye-candy, hardly worth mentioning here, lol.

Disable the "Made with JUCE" splashscreen
This feature is only available for open-source projects or people who actually pay for JUCE 8)

Full Release Notes
- fixed Legato carrying current value over to Attack rather than to current ADSR section
- ChipDraw tables now available as LFO waves
- XY-Pad automation can now be recorded in DAW
- added background fill to chipdraw and wavedraw editors
- disabled "Made with JUCE" splashscreen
- fixed permissions path in mac installer script when copying file over from old soundbank location
- added new patches to factory sound bank
- git commit hash is now displayed in the help-section

Again, I'd be thankful if you just briefly report things work here!
