Serum & what else?

I never got that into the sound of Serum, though the workflow looks nice. ANA2 though for me is one of the best sounding synths around. It has a grit and bite that is somehow warm at the same time as being sharp and cutting. Can sound very analog and very digital. I never get that cold feeling like I do with Serum and even Rapid (although both can sound great and do have nice filters etc.). Can't explain it, I just like what I like. When it comes to these wavetable synths I also like Icarus, though it's different. Very smooth, hard to make it sound harsh. Like most tone2 can be a bit plasticky and almost too smooth but so easy to make it work. Those would probably be my top wavetable synths for sound, and Harmor too, but I've never been that into the design.

Try to use the analog filter of Rapid, you can get really "warm" and powerful stuff with it!

Oh I did, and I agree it's a nice filter. And I'm not at all saying that you can't get nice sounds from the oscillators as well, but judging from presets and just playing around with it (demo), I find it easier to come up with sounds I like in ANA2. It's like it's hard to create bad sounds with it. These days I'm less impressed with synths that have a wide variety of sounds if it's relatively easy to make it sound bad (to me). I used to use Zebra a lot for example which could sound amazing, but I also found the results to be unimpressive. Again, that's based on my programming abilities and factory presets, not necessarily the full capabilities.

And well, you got a point with the "individual sounds" thing, that kills my argument a little bit like yours before, but you also know, that every synth sounds different, because you also use several of them or not?

I do and one of the things that teaches me is that I can use 10 different synths for any given part and they'll all get the job done. But usually one will do it with a lot less effort than the others.

That also depends on the music you're making. If I make a main room trance tracks I have much layers, but if I make some filigree Electro, DnB or IDM stuff, you hear every single sound through the mix.

So what's the point of a part if you can't hear it?

Same here.

After some demo sessions with Ana2 i found out that it has really nice character, is very easy to operate and indeed sounds great with minimum efforts.

It seems to be well suited to the sounds I need for my tracks. Like these, for example. Very impressive presentation (also the guy is one of the biggest names in modern psytrance so if it's good enough for him it must be good enough for me)

I think I like the Serum preset more

From what I hear in your examples, Sylenth1 seems to have a lower cutoff so you might achieve the same sound by lowering the cutoff.

yep i notice that, i'm also a bit too hard on filter drive.

the cutoff value is hard to set, it is heavily modulated : velocity, one enveloppe and one low frequency random lfo affect it..

btw Sylenth random lfo seem more predictible than serum's one...

i still miss something on the cutoff env on note beginning, next attempt may be the one
