I wouldn't say abandoned, more like finished. :) Leslie updated the code to modern standards (64bit version) a while back and it's still available on his site (https://www.lesliesanford.com/vst/plugins/)

Yes releasing vst3 only is is annoying. VST2 isn't exactly dead.

It's not like TheWaveWarden had a choice in that. Maybe now that Odin 2 is open source, someone else with the necessary license can provide a VST2 build.

It's understandable since vst 2 is not supported anymore , and it 's possible to license it for new developers , instead vst3 is the only option
Don't know the exact details ( someone will correct me when wrong )

I vote for Zebralette. Almost zero CPU usage, easy to use, sounds nice and new GUI looks pretty nice...

VST isn't an open format. It's Steinberg proprietary, but they formerly made it easy for other developers and even competitors to use. They decided to stop supporting VST2 except for certain cases, which ultimately meant only big developers could still use it.

Unfortunately, VST3 is/was not as easy to develop for - supposedly they've made some updates to the developer kit since the announcement. I'm not a dev so I can't say for sure what changed.

I wonder if a truly open standard like Linux's LV2 will come to Windows because of this.

I think Odin2 had a lot of Thor inspiration but I can't speak for Analogy64 in this regard. TBH I was deliberately biased (hence the wink) because I have been helping out with these two, beta testing and making presets. They are exceptional synths though. Odin2 is VST3 only but Analogy64 is VST2.
