Reminds me of Firebird, such a shame Firebird isn't 64bit.

Post

I think it is a new version of Firebird.
I hope it sounds a lot better, though.

Architecture is very similar, and, I'm sure it sounds better. Electra2 and Icarus sound better too. Not that Firebird really sounded bad though. Actually, it's one of the more beefy older plugins.

Just read this: https://www.kvraudio.com/news/tone2-ann ... izer-50455

So it's January 2021. :tu:

Personally I am not so much into LFO modulation, but I think a single LFO might be considered quite a limitation by some users these days.

GUI is Amazing

Description sounds a lot like ArcSyn, and I really like ArcSyn. I wonder if this will beat any of the ArcSyn features....

On the subject of Warlock and Firebird from early on in the thread:
Markus Krause wrote: Wed Nov 04, 2020 5:50 pm I initially started this project as a replacement for FireBird, since many people have asked for a replacement.
However it turned out as a lot more difficult as expected. It was not possible to keep a downward compatibility with FireBird with a reasonable effort. FireBird was simply too old. The VST framework was still 2.3, the GUI framwork was completely incompatible. VST 2.3 is completely different from VST 3.7 from the technical side. Porting it was a technical nightmare, since Steinberg does not care about an easy migration of old projects at all. Sadly the VST3 SDK is a real pain for developers. It's badly documented, heavily obfuscated and bloated. That's why it is still not properly established after 10 years and many customers still prefer VST 2.4. Releasing a plugin without VST 2.4 support was a no-go for me. Steinberg made VST 2.4 support with the latest SDKs as difficult as possible. So I had to do a lot of tinkering to make it work which wasted several months of development-time.
The sound-engine of FireBird did not longer fulfill my demands on quality. So everything had to be completely rewritten from the scratch. During development I had lots of new ideas which I wanted to implement. I did lots of experiments and found exciting possibilities to extend the concept. There was also lots of stuff that I did dislike and was removed, like the Reverb, the psycoacoutic processing, microtuning, the playback of the oscillators, many filters, many effects, the GUI, etc. In the end I had a completely different synth, which was not longer FireBird and also not longer compatible.

Warlock has 4 LFOs:
- One that can be freely assigned to targets called 'LFO'
- Two special ones within the OSC section (over "Loopmode"). They handle the morphing of the spectrum
- One for 'Vibrato'. The depth is controlled by the modwheel

:D

Markus, I always find it amusing when you always find certain "workarounds" to make up for lacking features, but... let's face it. The synth only has one LFO, which you can assign to certain targets. :) It doesn't have 4 LFO's, which can be freely assigned. The 3 you are talking about it are hardcoded, so, noone can do anything with them but the things they are hardcoded too.

Which is fine. Every synth has limitations. It's just that these limtations are there, and can't be argued away.

Post

Hmmm...
Doesn't it mean that the synth has four lfo's but only one is freely assignable?
Which is what MK said.
