Watch this (sorry for the off). He explains how to replace your synth's filter with The Drop. It's a bit of a routing mission and doesn't quite work in poly but boy it's worth it. This thing really does sound like HW (to me):

Anyway back to topic. I can do this with MX. Just wanted to know how good it holds up as a compact solution. Thanks for the opinions!

AFAIK it's not 1:1 The Drop filters that are in Live, but specially coded versions by Andy, adapted for lower CPU usage. Or is that's in EQ Eight? I forget.

That is correct. Same goes for The Glue (esp when the HD is 'finally' out).

JoeCat wrote: Tue Dec 01, 2020 5:37 pmMonark's filter is awesome, and all the Massive filters work quite well IMO even if they're not modelled.
Can get p*ssed at NI for a lot of things but not the DSP.
Agreed... NI's DSP is world class. MX's filters are really good. The comb filter may be the best I have heard for that type.

True that would need to be the case - but for most "musically relevant applications" (I'm sure I didn't invent that term but love it), I'm feeling the vibe. :D

Post

Yes absolutely. For basic applications it does the job better than any other DAW inbuilt sampler to be fair (or filter model in stock instruments as such).

Downloaded MX demo and digging it so far. Boy it's half price atm hard to resist.

It's just straining to look at. They really took a step back in GUI design from Massive to X. It still looks like an alpha version.
I'm using the Flat Default theme since available. The Standard theme is very irritating for my eyes....

Unfortunate decision to move from two filters in massive, to just a single filter for massive X....

Well, can still add 3 more filters using insert FX slots...

The dark skin is totally alright in regards of contrast and overall clarity.

Didn't like the default white skin either. Too bright for me.

With the routing, it's super flexible anyway. You can also use up to 7 oscillators as well, when you route the auxiliary oscillators in the same way as the oscillators.

But they are basic, non resonant and take up precious slots so that's not a good substitute.

Post

I agree, a real 2nd filter would be nice. But on the other hand, there are enough shaping possibilities. And for some additional lfo hipass/bandpass filtering, an external filter plugin would do the job. Not to forget, using non-Synth FX generally adds uniqueness to the sound....

Post

There is a spectral filter on the oscillators to do tone shaping. So IMHO there is no real need for a second filter anyway. I believe this decision was also made to save CPU as the main filter is very high quality and without compromise.
