80s funk BBD type chorus plugins

I use the built in chorus in the Roland JC-120 sims. Works great for me.

@telecode: You're an Amplitube user, right? Makes me wonder if IK Multimedia's Chorus C1/Chorus-1 effect sounds exactly the same as the one from the JC-120. But then I might be going off-topic.

To my ears, the Amplitube JC does not sound anywhere near as good as the real amp.

I tried one of the 40 amp ones a while back. It sounded amazing. I should really sell my old amp to someone who is still touring and playing live and trade down.

In Software I use Guitar Rig emulations of CE-1 and the Jazz amp which are decent and then ofcourse Harmonizers like the H3000, H949, H910 as you mention were used aswell aswell any delay unit with Pitch or modulation capabilties like the AMS DMX and Lexicon Prime Time also the classic Symphonic preset on the Yamaha SPX90 was mentioned to me by Mario Salvati(Mixed the Attitude album produced by The System and some of Howard Johnsons stuff produced by them too, check out discogs.com if interested)

Double tracking is probably more relevant though tbh, I've got Stems of some Funk/Pop tracks from back then and the Brass and Bass are often double tracked. So I'd go that route first for fatter sounds.

Check out Valhalla Space Modulator too it has some nice Models like the Symphonic and Ensemble.

But is there a demo available? I have no idea how it sounds.

I've demoed the Xils lab Chor'X which has a Roland VP-330 mode that I really like (I used to have a real VP-330 and the ensemble effect was IMHO half of that amazing vocoder sound). Sounds great on strings to get that "vintage" feel. Anyway it's still at EUR 59 so I'm holding that off until there's a discount (nothing so far, but we'll see tomorrow if they're having a Black Friday sale).
Oh, at the subject of the VP-330 vocoder, there's the free VSP-330 vocoder plugin (including the ensemble effect). Unfortunately (for me) Windows only, but worth a mention in case others are interested.

Thanks. I installed the VIP bundle demo and tried out that Dimension 3D plugin but didn't particularly like it.
I think I'll be waiting for the Xils Lab Chor'X to go on sale, which unfortunately didn't happen under black Friday.

A little update....
I'm still waiting for Xils Lab Chor'X to go on sale (which hasn't happened yet), but there was mention of U-he Colour Copy earlier in this thread. I just found that it's on 50% sale from Native Instruments (also other U-he plugins) until 7th of January 2021. (NOTE: U-he's own website doesn't have any sale, strangely!).

The demo is great, although I haven't found any presets trying to emulate the Dimension D and/or VP-330 ensemble.
Still, I don't want to give up on it before I give it a fair go: what kind of settings do I need to get either of those effects? I'm particularly interested in the Roland VP-330 ensemble which is great for vocoders and strings. What kind of BBD setup and delay times are we looking for? According to Florian Anwander's Roland chorus/ensemble page, it has two BBD chips (MN-3009) and five (!!) LFOs (MN-3004).

The Dimension D doesn't use pitch shifting. Instead, it has two bucket brigade delays, modulated by a triangle LFO. The triangle LFO modulation causes an up/down pitch trill. The LFO is inverted before modulating one of the delay lines, so the pitch shift trill in one channel is opposite of the other channel. In other words, one delay has an up-down-up-down pattern, while the other delay has a down-up-down-up pattern. If you mix these two together, the result is a "detuned" chorus: up+down, down+up, up+down, down+up...

The Dimension D has stereo outputs, arranged in a way kinda similar to this:

outLeft = delayLeft - delayRight
outRight = delayRight - delayLeft

There is also a cool EQ trick, where the "antiphase" component (i.e. the part subtracted from each channel) is highpass filtered, and the dry signal has its low frequencies boosted in a way that is complementary to the highpass filtering. This keeps the bass frequencies from cancelling out.

Is this plugin suitable for that sort of thing, or better suited for general old type BBD delays? Although a lot simpler and not with such a pretty user interface I already have a nice free BBD delay in the Full Bucket Music Brigade delay, so I'm not sure if this is worth paying for.
