I hope not, if so - I'm out
Francisco Partners to invest significantly in Native Instruments, the Berlin-based global leader in digital music creation software and hardware, acquiring a majority shareholding from EMH Partners and the Founding Shareholders, with both remaining significant minority shareholders
So it looks like it's just a new investor on top of existing investor.

I'm pretty sure that they will do subscription based software at some point.

No, kids, that doesn't have to mean that they will stop selling perpetual licenses.

If I read the Business Wire piece correctly, EMH and the NI founders sold majority share to Francisco. Interesting move, but end-state is essentially an exit ramp for EMH and the founders.

I don't know if NI is now or was a publicly traded company. If not, I would guess the end-goal is either an IPO or small(er) shop acquisition run, via a SPAC (maybe), and then an IPO. Rest assured monetization is the goal - no one's doing it out of altruism. Francisco wants a profit off the investment.

Good or bad for the customer base depends on their approach. I've been in "first we kill the visionaries" post-buyout startups - it wasn't pretty and innovation ate it. Could just as easily go the other way, and hopefully does.

More market consolidation is probable, though.

Just my $0.02(US)

ETA: I predict u-He will be acquired

So much is often lost in translation...

The private equity company said that it plans to end the creative music platform

That would be totally awful.... just like they did with Emagic - Logic and Camel Audio... hope it never happens :(
