I only demo'd it, but didn't end up buying. I'm very selective with my plugin choices, and didn't feel like it would give me the edge, sound wise, over what I already have. The sound is "modern", think Dune 2, Icarus or Synthmaster. I prefer more edgy, punchy, and beefy synths. But to each his own.Butwug wrote: Tue Nov 20, 2018 9:26 amProbably what Ill end up doing, trying out demo. Do you use this vst? If you do, what are your thoughts on it.chk071 wrote: Tue Nov 20, 2018 6:48 am Should be a no-brainer for the money. I'd just go for it. Never read that it's specifically buggy. You can demo it if you're in doubt.
ANA 2 or Serum

I got ANA 2 during a previous sale. I think it's a pretty good, underrated synth. It does subtractive as well as wavetable and even a bit of Sample+Synthesis. It might not compete with Serum or Icarus in terms of wavetables and what you can do with them, but it's not bad. It also does virtual analogue really well, and has a huge number of different filters and a decent FX section. The interface looks sleek and is easy to use.
Of course there's some overlap with other popular synths that use the same synthesis methods, so it's not something you "need" if you have Serum, Spire etc. The reverse is also true though, you might not need to buy those expensive synths for a while if you get ANA 2.

Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

I realize it's an older Topic but relative in my world. I just picked up Ana 2 a few months ago.
A few things that make it special for me.
7 oscillators
Sync on 3 oscillators
7 mod envelopes
The GUI layout is nearly perfect form me.
Fastest path to not of any synth I have ever used.
Can't believe no one mentioned the Arp and chord function in this thread. This is as inspirational as any feature. The EQ and comp are good enough for me to literally stay on the gui for the complete track set up.
I have had no big issues so far on latest release. Win 7, Reaper 6

Serum is the smarter choice. Lots of new changes. Wavetable to LFO is a nice addition in a recent update from the Xfer discord channel. Serum 2 has been discussed, and Steve Duda was on a podcast discussing that he is working on it. I would go with Serum, as the update from 1 to 2 is free I believe

Why ? Serum costs quite a bit more than ANA 2 and has far fewer features. What makes it the "smart" choice between the two ?

I said that the upgrade to serum 2 will be free, and the new features for serum 2 are going to be massive. Join the Xfer discordTeksonik wrote: Mon Jan 25, 2021 2:04 pmWhy ? Serum costs quite a bit more than ANA 2 and has far fewer features. What makes it the "smart" choice between the two ?

We're not talking about what might be in the future. What makes Serum the smarter choice now ?
Like I said Serum costs more and has far fewer features. That doesn't sound like the smart choice to me.

I have ANA 2 and it's a great synth. But Serum would be the one I'd choose if I had to pick one.

Its not about what might be, its a fact. Serum 2 is coming. Its not always about what is "cheaper". Ana 2 is nice, if you want to get it, get it. Just consider that the upgrade to Serum 2 will be freeTeksonik wrote: Mon Jan 25, 2021 2:19 pm We're not talking about what might be in the future. What makes Serum the smarter choice now ?

Does Ana 2 have a wavetable editor? I checked, I didnt see one. That alone is a hard no for me if it doesnt. Serums editor is second to none. I like the built in Chord generator in Ana 2, and its sampler seems ok. Otherwise, nothing else blows me away.
Judging from what I read on their site, Serum 2 should easily offer a lot more features and then some.
If anyone wants to learn more about Serum 2, here is a link to the podcast featuring Steve Duda from Xfer talking about it.

Serum has more and different features, but Node is actually not bad at all.
Very easy to pick out single cycle waveforms from samples and good interpolation from what I can tell. Very easy to get very good and clean results.

"Coming" is a relative term:vertibration wrote: Mon Jan 25, 2021 2:57 pmIts not about what might be, its a fact. Serum 2 is coming. Its not always about what is "cheaper". Of course not but if the cheaper option has more features....anyway you've done nothing to convince anyone that Serum is the "smarter choice" right now.
I already own ANA 2 and have tried the demo of Serum more than once. I came to a completely different conclusion that it's too feature poor and not worth the asking price and hence not the "smarter choice" between the two.
And that's before we even bring Vital into the equation.....
