I'm really enjoying Studio One - 5.2 feels great, especially with Atom SQ. An annoying bug with QWERTY keyboard notes sticking was fixed.

Also enjoying ATOM SQ integration, very good indeed (especially the step sequencer). If they just make changing scales in S1 change the scales (lights) on the ATOM automatically and a way to turn it off (all the lights at least) it will be even better!
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

FYI: Download Page still says „5.1“ for the manual, but the link for the PDF has been already updated to 5.2:

Very annoying bug on macOS. Studio One 5.2 stops playing when you move away or open an other app. So if you have S1 open and switch to your browser S1 will stop playback. Was never an issue before and it used to be an option in preferences to turn that off.

Someone posted the solution in the PreSonus forums. If you run into this issue on Mac do the following:

In S1 go to the Help menu > Open Settings Folder, go to x64. Backup AudioEngine.settings just in case. Rename or delete file. Restart S1. Issue should be resolve then.

I have no such issue. I'm typing this right now in my browser with Studio One 5.2 playing, on Mac.

It seems to depend on how long you've had S1. There was a setting in S1 called release audio engine when in background from version 3. They removed that option so recreating the audioengine.settings removes that option. If you look at the XML of the file you will see the option there. It's just not exposed to the UI anymore.

Ah, ok. I started with V4, so that makes sense.

Bit of a dilemma - I've had a decent offer on Bitwig Studio - (upgrade from 8 track for.about £220) - that or buy a new USB interface (I'm just using a hifi DAC currently - works fine though) and get Studio One Artist for free ?

A Presonus 68c is £200 but comes with Studio One Artist plus Output Movement etc

I've tried both and it's hard to tell personal.pros and cons without using for some period of time

I do like playing my keyboard live though (as in at home using split keyboard, latches etc) and recording the midi and Bitwig seemed easier on initial go

For instance it actually recorded the latches from its own latch midi filter (worked well) whereas in other DAWs I've had to use eayy the Unify or TAL J-8 latch in the VSTs and then on playback it's all over the place

Any ideas please - Bitwig or Studio One Artist with free USB interface

98% of my use is midi in and VSTs

If THAT's the choice, go for Bitwig 100%! :hyper:

However, it misses comping and retrospective recording, both present in S1 Artist. On the flip side, Bitwig has one of the best - if not the best - implementation of MPE, if that's something important for you.

I say go for the audio interface. I have PreSonus iTwo for several years and I love it and it's much less than 68c! If I want to upgrade in the future, Presonus audio interface would be my choice again :)
Artist v5 has vst support and you would miss few things only from the Pro version!
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

I'm really into the Show Page after the changes they made. I like that's more automated to setup than say MainStage or Ableton. No need to worry about changing patches, it does it based on my arranger sections. Really slick. I have to keep playing around with it to get a good workflow but so far I like it way better than Ableton for my purposes. I don't perform with a Push or anything like that just a keyboard, a mic and a guitar. Being able to have my guitar setting switch automatically as it goes through the sing is really nice. The same with my vocal patches. I haven't hooked up any external synths yet or VSTs. One of the things I dislike about MainStage is that while its very powerful, it's a pain to setup imo. Things get complicated fast. Show Page is a breeze in comparison.

Does anybody know if they fixed the midi drag issue with midi files over a certain size opening a new song instead of just going to where you drag in the current song ?
It's a great update but, no, they did not fix that. It's taken so long there must be some kind of misunderstanding or it's getting lost in translation to the individual that handles that respective part of the program. There are posts about it on the old Presonus forum from like... version 1.2

I've tried Googling this etc, but can't get the wording right for meaning answers!

(Using Reaper, but take system is killing me so thinking about jumping ship.)

Say I have S1 5 Pro, and my collaborator has Artist, what is the deal in terms of swapping songs back and forth? I know the audio engine is 64 vs 32 bit; is that an issue or I guess that's only employed during playback and recording anyway?

Apart from there being some plugins in one and not the other, are there issues with with this please?

Yes, the audio engine differences will only affect playback and recording. Studio One Artist and Studio One Professional may come with different library content and plugins, so if you want to collaborate more than just with bounced audio, then I recommend that you collaborate at the level of the lowest common denominator, which would be to the the feature set of the Studio One 5 Artist edition.

Let me rephrase my question as, obviously, you didn't quite understand it. ;)

Which indicators do you see, regarding this new update, that they are "chasing Pro Tools"?
Ok, "chasing" was the wrong word. Perhaps "attracting" the Pro Tools professionals by going more in that direction. It just seems to me that they are moving more towards that type of DAW.

The emphasis on live performance - score writing - song arranging.

And - they are not trying to attract the FL Studio - Bitwig - Live crowd.
I think they are just adapting to where the market it is. Kinda like what you see with Steven Slate right now vs just catering to rock guys. One major producer who did a interview with Presonus said this “There have been times where I’ve walked into big label studio sessions and people look confused because they’ve never seen Studio One in person!" It's 2021, and that's a problem when a pro producer say's that.

Either or the producers are the one's selling Studio One right now. PT is the standard in pro studios etc. For production in the industry I think FL/Logic/Ableton are still the choice for modern producers/songwriters. Studio One still hasn't cracked that area like that.
I've actually had this happen to me. I walked into producers meetup and had S1 open. They were like "Studio One? What's that?" It was pretty diverse group too, with Ableton (the majority), Logic, Reason and FLStudio users, even Sybelius, and everyone was left scratching their heads when I opened S1. it took me by surprise since I thought everyone knew about S1. Sometimes I forget how niche our community is and S1 users are a niche of a niche. So yeah Presonus has some work to do.
What's interesting is that I'm seeing many music producers who showcased Studio One now or from the past are moving over to Ableton. Some established producers as well I noticed have moved on as well. So Presonus really won't have anybody to showcase it compared to a Live or FL. 5.2 won't cut it the way todays market is.
