Has support been dropped for Intel Celeron?

I've noticed since version 11.5.6 that Waveform will no longer run on my Lenovo ideapad ( running Ubuntu 20.04 budgie ).
I use this netbook for sketching ideas and although it isn't exactly a power horse, it is surprising capable of running quite a few instances of Vital synth etc.
The machine has an Intel Celeron dual core chip and the error thrown at runtime is a sigkill with" illegal instruction ( core dumped )'
Thanks guys.

which model celeron? If it's older it's probably the lack of avx (only the very latest generation of celeron's have grown avx support - previously celeron/pentium lacked it)

Linux now requires at least Sandy Bridge. GCC was generating much slower code if we allowed older processors.

Someone needs to update the product pages on tracktion.com. They used to specify Core Duo, but now just say "64 bit", which is a lesser requirement.

I wonder does Waveforms internal code depend/require the actual avx &&|| sse instruction set to function ( with the new engine ) properly?
I think it's possible on Linux for some Intel chipsets to upgrade the required libs ( if the functionality is there obviously )
It may even be possible ( this is just my thinking without any research ) to hack the kernel or some microcode to trick the system into believing it is capable?

Would be good to hear from the Devs on their knowledge on the subject.

Thanks.

We have a lot more users that we expected still using older computers, so we are hopefully going to find a way to remove this requirement.

Thanks Figbug, as long as it doesn't cause problems with the new engine It would be good to keep support for older chips I guess.

What CPU do you have? We are thinking of supporting Nahalem and newer. That's 2008 and newer CPU. Gets us SSE4.1

@FigBug My CPU is a ' goldmont_plus ' N4020 . I believe this is a late 2019 processor (formerly Gemini Lake Refresh)

According to what I have seen so far, SSE-4.2 should be supported ( maybe a Linux thing tho ? )

Can you try this version on Linux and let me know if it works with your CPU: https://www.dropbox.com/s/yfdl059vw297b ... 1.deb?dl=0

That's good. Can you comment on performance. How does the new engine compare to the old engine in regards to CPU usage?

I will do some tests this evening as I have actually just did a reinstall of Ubuntu on this very machine last night and will need to spend a few hours tweaking the system to get the best possible configs for audio i/o / low latency etc

I tried this on my old i5-750 running Linux Mint and it seems fine. :tu:

Hi @FigBug,
Is there any chance of Phenom II getting support as well?
