I'd say the A80 is a safe bet. Studer tape machines are well regarded and have been emulated by UAD, Softube, Slate, Nomad Factory, etc.

Demo'ing them all now and the A80 is my pick so far too - but going between the 24 and the 80. I think i'll get one of the 30 IPS ones, not 7.5/15 IPS. The freq bumps are a little more hyped on the A80 than the 24, but easy to roll them back a touch.

Now to consult the doctor (Plugin Doctor) for a full diagnosis

So if you buy Stealth Limiter from a 3rd party seller but wait to register the license, and Stealth Limiter is part of a summer IK group buy, registering it then will put you in the $150 tier, right? Hmm.

Wonder what the odds are of it being in the group buy....

It sounds great, I bought it today on a recommendation from a friend (I’ve been eyeing it for a while). It limits pretty hard without noticeable artifacts.

Is there much point in getting it if you already have Ozone 9 Advanced? Stealth Limiter is apparently high on cpu, so probably not much if any advantage there....

I have ozone 9 advanced, stealth limiter is cleaner than the ozone limiters, at least to my ears. They each have their place.

2020 group buy was virtual instruments, 2019, 2018, and 2017 were T-Racks and Amplitube stuff... so no guarantee Stealth Limiter will be in this year's group buy. Though it seems more likely than not?...

agree with this. just demo them and read on the IKM web site what they can do. i own the 80 and the 24 and use them occasionally. usually use the 24. when you demo them, test out how many instances you can run and how it performs on your setup. i find them really heavy on CPU.

FWIW.. I use the stealth limiter on almost all my projects. it's very transparent.. but.. now that i have been exposed to some IKM mixing plugins for a while and had the chance to test some others.. i am sort of looking to limit my exposure to IKM.. I feel other companies like Softube, even though they are more expensive, also make better plugins. i have yet to experience the "mysterious" crashes that i sometimes get with IKM plugins in my projects.

Speaking from experience with the real machines, I'd say the 440 is the one to get if you want to sound like classic albums from the 60's and 70's, while the A80 is the one to get for more modern tape sounds. The JH24 sounded great but not too many albums were made on them.

The audio example on IK's site of drums going through the 440 sounds awesome, like a classic jazz record. The examples of the other machines are much more subtle.

I have no idea if that will work but the Master EQ 432 might be the one to get in that case. It has the highest non-sale price and the group buy plugins you can choose from are based on that. It's an awesome mastering EQ, as well.

The Stealth has been included in every IK Group Buy that I can remember.
