i cut my teeth on acid 3. i don't see how acid 5 is any better than 4. i see tracktion as everything i had wished acid could have been. then i see acid 5 come out and not list a single new feature that i find useful. and that's after taking forever to release it. I don't think that'll happen with T2, but i'm not waiting around to find out.

I'm with the group who doesn't mind waiting. I bought Tracktion because it did everything I needed it to do(and more). And it did it easier than any other host for me.
Nothing in the above statements has changed. So why should my sequencer? It's like those people who have to get every new synth they come across. "I got synth 1A2B3C because it was so easy to use and sounds great!" Then the next week, "I bought 2TG68I because it was easy to use and sounds great!" And it keeps going and going. You never really get good with what you are using. Or maybe you didn't buy it for the reason you said. Alot of people here who say they are jumping ship jumped on board in the first place for some reason. So what has changed? Either you just have to have the latest and greatest(however that is measured) or you aren't really trying to see that Tracktion is everything you bought it for. And if you bought it thinking it was something else, shame on you. There's a demo for that ya know.
So I'm here. Tell me the price for T2 and I'll pay it now. If nothing else than just to support Jules. I don't even care if anything is addded. I'm content right now.

Acid 5 is better than 4 because it's now a rewire client, so you can rewire it to Tracktion to take care of timestretching as T is currently not very good at that.

That's fair. But I can't see spending the money on acid for the time streching alone. I don't really time stretch anyway. I hope my post above didn't sound like I don't support T2. I'm as anxious as anybody. I'm just saying that I don't have anything that T1 can't handle. And to wait that long for acid just to be a rewire client, that seems like too long for too little. I look at the new features in ableton, cubase and cakewalk and I don't see Acid adding much, comparitively. I write rock and indie music though, and that is not Acid's strongest suit.

Imo it's hard to crititicize him for than...
Also I think it's important to give Mackie a feedback about the negative effect their policy has to the 'moral' of at least some of their customers...

I saw a couple of new features that would be useful like vst support (of course I had already bought a wrapper), reversing of audio clips, and rewire... but asking $150 for the upgrade is ridiculous.paul_is_dead wrote:i cut my teeth on acid 3. i don't see how acid 5 is any better than 4. i see tracktion as everything i had wished acid could have been. then i see acid 5 come out and not list a single new feature that i find useful. and that's after taking forever to release it. I've migrated to another host (Live 4) AND i'm still waiting for T2. That's partly because I see Live 4 partly playing a different role in my music making process. Plus, I think Tracktion is the BEST program for my stduents to start on - it is easy to get the hang of and cheap enough for them to afford their own copy at home.
Also, without a Freeze function Live requires continuing bouncing down of tracks, which is a bore.
I think that when T2 comes out though I will be comparing it with Sonar before jumping at either. Sonar seems to have a lot going for it now...

I am eagerly anticipating the improved piano roll in T2.
Mainly because I enter most of my music in step time with the mouse (I'm not so good on the ivories...).
The Piano Roll in T1 is nowhere near as good as other piano rolls (e.g. FL Studio, Reason), but the overall workflow in Tracktion is so good, the improved piano roll is worth waiting for...

I switched to a used copy of Sonar but am still waiting on T2, I'll see how it is when it's released. And what the upgrade price is. Either it comes out before I get my head totally around Sonar (and I'll happily switch back) or I'll stick with Sonar if I become more comfortable with it. I'd rather have Tracktion though, since it's way easier to know what is going on and on what tracks etc. I hate the way Sonar works for this one reason. That's my favorite thing about Tracktion, I always know what input and VST is on what track etc. Sonar is just retarded in this respect.

give me:
folder tracks
ghost clips
clip based automation
lockable clips (treat a group of clips as one)
improved piano roll
step recording of automation events
MIDI controllable VST automation
elminate added latency with racks
and I'll be totally happy with T2 as a valid upgrade
add:
decent time stretching
improved project page
duplicate midi inputs
the ability to collapse window regions
template songs
and I'll be in hog heaven.
