I already replied to your post, but your demo of Vocalsynth was obviously really really sloppy... I already addressed other points but re CPU c_voltage is on point.

Are you sure you didn't simply mix up ovox/vocalsynth when writing your comment?

Well, to be honest, i already long time ago tried Waves Ovox demo, so, can be not remember how a much it for cpu, and Vocalsynth i have first version, but recently tried v2 as well (and AFAIR it was the same by consumption), so, Vocalsynth 1 in default preset eats 14%, and about 24% with all enabled modules (at a single core resp., Studio One here, PC i7-8700), frankly i doubt that Ovox eat more.

Btw, i really did not find significant profits in Vocalsynth v2 for upgrade, and look of v1 i liked more (and even by sound a bit, in some modules, that may be strange).

What regards Ovox, well, as for me, it would be sense to grab at good discount, there is a pair of fun details, but frankly in general his sound seems to me a bit messy\unclean (for intended using, during fat stack of voices). But for side use\unexpected harmonic textures, can catch something here.

Ovox definitely uses way more cpu on my system. It’s the only waves plugin I’ve ever had cpu issues with. As far as vocal synth goes, I just already have all those bases covered. I bought it on sale anyway because I have a compulsive need to get stuff. I’ve found some fun uses for VS2 since I got it. Most of them aren’t vocal effects though.
I never claimed to be a demo ninja or anything, I just found Ovox to be able to do lots of things that I can’t do anywhere else. The same was not true with vocal synth.

tbh often issue with VocalSynth and pretty much most of synthetic vocal processors.. Try pre-prepping the vocals you feed it - roll off the highs, de-ess heavily, notch 2-6k heavily, hi-pass sharply at fundamental of the voice, then EQ the output as well (usually it's build up in the mids, and in the high-mids)
Yes, trigger tracks can either make or break any decent vocoder. Preparing them so they are more consistent and even articulate can definitely yield better results.

Vocalsynth 2 is more precise and responsive to singing in the higher registers, an area where I found Ovox slightly lacking. I’m speaking high tenor and flageolet registers.

Not a vocoder as such, but has anyone checked out the new PitchBender by Waves??

I don’t think it’s designed to replace pitch tuning plugins, I think it’s approach is more for creating that simple and fast “autotune” effect for real time performance. An area not really covered by VocalSynth or Ovox. WavesTune RT, maybe, but this seems simpler and faster than that.

Anyone given it a go??

Same here. Got it in a bundle sometime ago but whenever I try to use it I decide not to.

It just always sound grainy, not in a good way.

My advice for using Vocalsynth is to turn every module off and start from scratch.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

It's certainly the place I like to start with most plugins. Though there is some value to be had by checking out the presets as it may lead to other ideas.

Many factory sounds, especially synth patches have WAYYYYY too much reverb and/or for my taste. It just washes the sound right out and takes away from the impact. So at the very least that is always getting adjusted, as well as envelopes and filters.

With a few exceptions I'd much rather kill most of that effect and run it through the global synth or vocal effects I have set up. This ultimately helps with a cleaner more cohesive mix. But I digress.

I'm still thinking that VocalSynth does the classic sounds really well, where as Ovox, skas the vocal synth genre into new territories. But there is a bit of overlap in the middle.
