The YM2612 SSG-EG stuff wasn't even supposed to be used really. Some weird remnant of the OPN's emulation of the good old AY-3-8910 core that they removed in the Genesis because of Sega-PSG(DCSG), but that's a topic for another day. TL;DR: it makes cool looping envelope sounds.foosnark wrote: Mon Sep 27, 2021 7:38 pm Maybe someday I will learn the YM2612 SSG envelope stuff. Can you please add up/down arrows keys support for navigating the sysex presets? Thank you

In which part? either in A/B tab directly or in the left file browser works here (PC).EnGee wrote: Mon Sep 27, 2021 8:07 pm Can you please add up/down arrows keys support for navigating the sysex presets? Thank you![]()
Do you mean in the full FILE/A/B/HW Columns? that's not simple since you can highlight more than one file with mouse+modifyers.

Honestly, what exactly is your problem? Are you trying to impress someone with your constant snark?fmr wrote: Sun Sep 26, 2021 10:25 amOh look, another fanboy with "ad hominem" attacks, and nothing else.gaggle of hermits wrote: Sun Sep 26, 2021 5:52 am i was about to ask if I could get what fmr is smoking, but then realised it’s probably a mixture of furniture polish and glue.
about the only constructive point you’ve made is about the algorithm display and even then as it’s on a rotary, and the arrangement updates in real time I don’t think it’s a big deal. most of the the time you were dealing with a handful of algorithms on the dx7 and you’d wind up remembering what numbers they are.![]()

In the File column. If I press the up key, instead of going to 11.E.PIANO 1, the track no. 6 is highlighted, and vice versa, so I think the OPS7 windows needs to have the function of the arrow keys when it is in focused.davidv@plogue wrote: Mon Sep 27, 2021 8:20 pmIn which part? either in A/B tab directly or in the left file browser works here (PC).EnGee wrote: Mon Sep 27, 2021 8:07 pm Can you please add up/down arrows keys support for navigating the sysex presets? I must be in the minority but I found the envelopes always intuitive and easy .foosnark wrote: Mon Sep 27, 2021 7:38 pmThanks for sharing that -- DX7 envelopes always have baffled me, including in FM8, but now they at least make a little sense. It's just 'time x' to reach 'level x ', 'time y' to reach 'level y' etc...
Same as the roland romplers ,
Later on roland and yamaha added an additional level( without time) , roland called it level 0 , yamaha called it initial level ( mostly filter envelopes )
Also , the dx level stages ALSO affect the time under certain conditions , depending on the next time/ level stage.
I think it's that what confuses most people , will post an example tommorow where it's obvious

Right thats what I was afraid of, Its the only place where keyboard doesn't work. I think its because of the fact that you can highlight multiple entries with the mouse+ctrl/etc. Will check if its possible.EnGee wrote: Mon Sep 27, 2021 9:54 pm In the File column. It is definitely priced right. Is this using Plogue's standard license file copy protection, ala bidule?

- "Rate" rather than "time", so higher = faster where most envelopes higher = takes longer.
- Without the diagram on the DX7 front panel, it doesn't really indicate that L3 is the sustain level and L4 is initial/final. And since that initial level is a little unusual in envelopes (but admittedly very handy for modulation!) it's that much more confusing at first.
- Levels affect the rate. Sometimes they completely negate a stage so the rate doesn't do anything (instead of acting as a delay or hold).
- The visual display of the envelope in OPS7 is scaled on the X axis with no "sustain" stage and you can't really tell what it's representing. With R1-R4 at 99, you have the same graph with levels of 99,99,99,0 (a gate) vs. 99,99,0,0 (an extremely short impulse click). With levels at 99,0,99,0 it looks like two AD envelopes but it's still just a gate until you start tweaking rates. (It's been a while since I used FM8, but I felt some similar confusion.)
Anyway, like I said, having read the explanation (and looking at a photo of the DX7 front panel) it's a bit less confusing, but it's still weird and unfamiliar. Flexible and powerful yes. Still going to take a little time to get used to though

Thanks, to be clear though, does it require activation on every install, or, once the card is created can it just be copied to another machine, e.g., one that is offline?davidv@plogue wrote: Mon Sep 27, 2021 11:28 pmBidule uses our older .bin file (2001 called)ghettosynth wrote: Mon Sep 27, 2021 11:24 pm It is definitely priced right. Respectfully, this is misleading and inaccurate, and just furthers a lot of people's (totally understandable) confusion with the DX7 envelopes:gentleclockdivider wrote: Mon Sep 27, 2021 11:19 pm

It's not 'time', it's rate. And that means moving the knob forward (right) = Faster, and moving it back (left) = Slower, for the four rate knobs. Which is, you must agree, exactly the opposite of what people generally expect from such knobs!
Usually we think "if the knob is all the way forward, it's a long or slow amount of time." But on the DX7, again (as you know) forward is not "lots of time / slow" it's "increased rate" and thereby Fast or short. I mean, about 99% of popular synths follow the 'turn it right means longer and slower" logic. Yamaha said "eff that", turned them from Time to Rate, and flipped everything around. (I know, I know, the DX7 itself didn't have knobs; thus the further confusion when its envelopes are translated to knobs or sliders in modern day UIs, etc.)
It takes some getting used to, no doubt. As for possible noobs reading this and wondering about Time vs. Rate, just think about how 99 seconds is longer than 1 second, but 99 MPH is FASTER than 1 MPH, and it will click in....
