In an interview he said he used Pro-One, Juno 60, Jupiter 8 and Moog Prodigy. I think I separately read he used the DX7 just for some of the more punchy bass sounds.olepro wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 10:46 am Or you could listen to this album with Howard Jones
There is DX7 all over it, and a great way to judge the sounds in a musical context

Looking forward to the OPS7 demo.

That's strange - so these should save as "defaults" when OPS7 opens? Rather than preset settings?davidv@plogue wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 5:59 pmHmm it does here. The only case that I know where that can happen is if the standalone is used and you use its own save as default (which is independent). There are very little global plugin settings, only the sys paths are store in the registry.
I had to run through my presets and save each one - to get these.
Windows 10 x64
Reaper x64 6.36 (latest)
EDIT - these presets are made from imported syx files - I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Mostly DX7 as I can tell.
After just 30 seconds I spotted five DX7 sounds

there's indeed a lot of dx7 there. interview with rupert hine (producer) from 1984 in one of the now defunct mags of the day: http://www.muzines.co.uk/articles/human-evolution/4078olepro wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 9:03 pmTry to listen to "What is love"db3 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 7:16 pmIn an interview he said he used Pro-One, Juno 60, Jupiter 8 and Moog Prodigy. the mainstay of the album: two dx7s and a prophet t8, apparently. though rupert mentions a ppg in passing and i think a few of the sounds could be from one of those, such as the bell-like sound towards the beginning of what is love.

Yep, I knew that. Just wasn't sure whether they extended the emulation like others have.gaggle of hermits wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 9:57 pmno filters on 80s-era fm synths.

That's cool. I generated a bank and imported it into FM8. It actually came up with some decent presets.Examigan wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 6:51 pm Not sure if anyone else mentioned this site yet?

To be more accurate here, VPS Avenger is a well-designed, very capable, complex synth, sadly poorly programmed performance- and stability-wise (also coming with an annoying protection), hence IMHO not an option for any needs.
Great It is not because of the really fair price, but I bought like 50 synths already, and only using 5 of it. Don't need the 51th synth that might not fit my needs. But your synth looks indeed extremely interesting and sounds so gooddavidv@plogue wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 2:37 pm Could be next week, worse case the week after. Thanks for your patience.

I specifically meant its wide array of presets that a synth layman can use when struggling with creating their own sounds.Hanz Meyzer wrote: ↑Wed Sep 29, 2021 6:01 am To be more accurate here, VPS Avenger is a well-designed, very capable, complex synth, sadly poorly programmed performance- and stability-wise (also coming with an annoying protection), hence IMHO not an option for any needs.

I really like this synth!
I have dexed and Aurora - but I love the "double DX7" ie DX1 sounds.
I also use Rhythmic Robot "DX Keys" https://www.rhythmicrobot.com/product/dx-keys-deluxe for DX EP sounds.
I have the gigantic syx file for DX7 presets - but has anyone tried DX1 presets (not that I've found any yet) with OPS7? Does it work?
I haven't taken the time to learn how to program a DX - but I like to tinker with presets

i've actually been holding out for 20 years or so on the FM synthesis. This is the first FM synth I've bought. It's obviously gonna take me a while to get my head around it, but it sounds better than any other FM synth i've messed around with. There's actually some character in the sound. I'm very impressed. The CPU tax is a tad high for my machine, but it's worth it. Yay FM dub sounds
