Here you are.
You'll notice I avoided mixing products. I like to keep things simple or else I find there's a lot of de-essing and filtering required.

When employing rnnoise, I use omega phase b gone, which forces the left or right channel to be the latter; to avoid having problems with rnnoise before and after.

You may notice that I use the VSTplug delay until in such a way that does not include the higher registers. This is so to not worry about excitation and more essing and mouth noises from the vocalist. Keeping it simple is the most important thing.

I used 24 gain with silverhawk so as to provide the realistic boost necessary that sounds pleasing. Years ago I used to use so many products; and now I use a great deal less. Because ultimately; you'll need to perform surgery on the vocal and you'll have to get rid of any noises and essing.

Thanks for watching, and if you would like Me to explain any concept I can make a video in this post and go over that. I like using mid side by the way; but you should use side very sparingly with vocals, because it picks up essing and mouth noise a great deal. I would also only employ it after the fact; so as to then go over it one more time with a de-esser.

You'll be hearing the singer compensating for a dry mouth or the milk they just drank rather than the song, after all.

I'm very excited

Here I use many different plug-ins including DSPplug plug-ins to achieve the same centering method. I use haas on the vocals and mid/side and mono on everything else.

I'll build a static chorus to use on everything but the vocals (without an lfo) to create contrast so that the vocals continue to pop and release that soon.

The vocals haven't been denoised to a great degree it's very rough; the guitars will be very different when they're done too, this is everything at its most basic level, yet working.

Here's a preview of the track I am working on that is My official artist preview.
I make rock that has hints of country, folk and pop very similar to Tragically Hip.
I call My band Copper Lake. My Copper Lake youtube channel is here
and My latest release on amazon is here.

https://youtu.be/FsgIhLKvjkk

This works out to about seven or eight bus channels for the vocal. The greatest issue being is that we don't want to amplify essing and noises in the high registers.
Therefore it's required to use an equalizer like the DSPplug silverhawk to lessen the impact of the higher register for all of them.

Accumulatively, they'll add a color and style that sounds analog and distinct. I used amps like le456 and mid/side as well as haas with mid and side to bring out both in different ways; creating the illusion of echoes, and distinctive areas of sound which are more focused. The result is professional and complicated enough to truly appreciate it on a large woofer/tweeter system, yet clean enough to play through earbuds without any aliasing and dissonance.

And here's a definitive guide, explaining what to do with track mixing and buses and dspplug plugins. I also use the AXP flextron and the Izotope Nectar Elements in this tutorial. For a room noise removal ate I employed the older Rvox by waves, and once or twice I use the waves de-esser.

For sim amps I used GTR2, which I like and Le456 by Poulin. Furthermore by MSI is the MasterMix Buss compressor. It has a nice hiss feature which makes the vocal recording sound realistic. I'll set it lower for the official release however, probably to nearly -70 dbfs or so.

Edit: I notice there was a lot of feedback in the vocal recording. This is due to the fact that I'd used OBS and ultimately RN noise. It makes a lot more sense to instead use Creative Wave Studio on the side, and just say something when you are starting obs to match them up correctly. What I will do is re-record these vocals; and match them with the original recording; that way I can replace the audio in youtube so that the audio is perfect.

It takes a bit of time; but this is a good tut, and that's rare.

Edit 2: I did remake the video twice until the audio and video were lined up. It took a long time.

Here's something good to know about the DSPplug Boardstation and essing:

Mixing and Recording a Folk Rock Track Fast

I use dspplug izotope and waves products in this walkthrough. I attempted to make it as fast as possible. The result is rushed and bright, but with a few eq bands it's fine.

I'll add the walkthrough for the final touches for those who want more than just a quick rundown of what to add. I'll likely add the waves c6 (mostly for the well-placed grit) and the waves rvox to get rid of room noise before the reverb.

Adding Vocal FX to the Folk Track

Adding delay and whatnot can make a vocal sound better. I don't change anything and I add some delay with the VSTplug delay unit. I think you'll like the approach. Next will be adding a bass instrument and guitar solos as well as orchestral.

Likely in 3 parts. Will be a commercial track when complete sold on apple music itunes tidal and amazon etc.

Adding a Bass instrument to a Folk Track

This is a varied bass style, stemming from Bossa Nova and Funk as well as Indie and Folk Rock. I did not have the time in the video to vary the timing so as to give it character, but I may well do a follow up. This will be a thorough and diverse series covering all aspects of the mixing and selection to create a rock/folk track.

Be warned, a bit long, but you watch Me write and play and then commit to midi.

Various tricks with DSPplug plug-ins in this video. I did not do a full walkthrough, instead you see My terrible recording and then I show how I made the one take sound somewhat ok. Many tricks outlined that you will find useful and interesting. have fun.

Here's a simple trick for using RNnoise so to add volume to a vocal with a lot of noises like essing etc.
It allows you to use RNnoise in stereo to then send on to reverb, widening or just to add some thickening.

You'll find the application of this very useful.

Here's My latest rough track, recorded live (in the video) and I do a quick walkthrough of the processing.

The rough I made with it is here:

You can too with dspplug plug-ins and various other waves and izotope ones. I like alloy 2, the waves de-esser and rvox as well as the abbey road reverb.

I'm also a fan of the psp easyverb and the free axp flextron. It has a very nice spring and hall reverb that's well worth considering.

Limiting for the Masses

While I appreciate a good amped system, or a wicked computer system with big subwoofers and satellites; it's uncommon. Creating your music to reflect the market makes a heck of a lot more sense. The average person will be proofing your song (deciding whether or not they like it) on a mono phone.

Would it be prudent for their to distortion in the low mids present in such a common circumstance? Absolutely not.

https://youtu.be/X3ewGgcJc6Q

Using the free vstplug esquire and the free vstplug freq (thanks to Nick Johnstone) you can re-stem most any sound so it sounds nearly the same and it does not make a small speaker "churk" and distort.

By the way, I realized there was a big update required to the VSTplug Esquire2, I am improving the hybrid LU tech right now and I will also be adding a custom made brickwall (using a custom comp algo, not clipping or saturation) which should be sufficient, it should be very near to a perfect true peak of -1, but I warn it might be -1.5 just so I don't undershoot it :/.

There will be automakeup for thrillseekers using a custom made hybrid linear / base 10 auto makeup gain technique I have recently devised. It ensures that the latency of the technique does not lag behind and that the decibels do not pump or become later rather than sooner.

I will ensure to use a method furthermore that is sample accurate, though I realize it will be a bit harder on the cpu as a result. At least there will be no dissonance and surprises.

:)

I may eventually replace the background with something photoreal. But this is what I came up with using the wind photoshop filter and a cracked texture.

Pro Track - Copper Lake: The Years

Here's a massive project. I bought some soundtrack loops rock samples and wrote a good song. It turned out so well that I've decided to take it all the way and add it to My next Copper Lake album.

[short version - listen to the track]

[long version - watch the making of it (very long)]

I will also add some definitive advice and explanations to this post explaning why I changed a few things as I did. It took many hours to develop a proper balance with the steel string acoustic guitars. They were already masteed quite well, but I wanted them to differentiate from one another. They were designed to be interchangeable.

I ended up using the free DSPplug Blumlein haas and the paid DSPplug stereo haas as well as the VSTplug mono to stereo product to achieve that. For the rhythm section I used nusofting's reverbering reverb which I think is one of the best in the world.

For those wanting to make a pro track with fl studio and need professional guidance, this is the video to watch.
The video however, does not go over a few interesting facts.

I used TBT TLS LEA after using the waves tune realtime product. I used rather minimal settings so as to not change the vocals to a significant degree. It may surprise you to know that I reduced peaking by 100 and added 80 in gain, but only after reducing transients by -8 or so in izotope alloy2 and using the compressor full blast. Before which I employed the DSPplug omega mid side using mostly side and 100% gain so as to thin out the plosives and bass.

I think to take the guitars even further I might look for a very rough sounding compressor so as to diiferentiate between guitars even further. I may make a few different compressors, labelled with different sound types: grain, lustre, shine, depth, grit and amp just for that purpose.

I am also awaiting the release of the 64 bit variety of sound rescue mkII! Very exciting. I may make one for My own uses haha :).

Here is Me recording with the mark3, turning off the mid side feature and instead using it with stereo and mono. It works fine this way and in My opinion has less aliasing and sounds better.

I wanted to make sure that the mark3 was a swiss army knife utility and not just some copy of a limited concept.

With My voice, it turned out great. Too bad because I would love to write rock for Miley Cyrus; she could really emerge I think as a serious rock artist.
