exactly

i would like "no-brainer" busses, sends/returns, but i really don't want to be looking at an on-screen mixer!

apart from that, the only other things I need are beat-slicing, decent time-stretch/pitch-shift, and certain immprovements to automation and midi editing so they feel less, er, "shaky"?

yup, lots of people who don't know about racks thinking they need a mixer to do sends.

Eitherway, I don;t think this poll is gonna make a whole lot of difference. MAckie are clearly ramping up the hype for T2, so I suspect T2 is fairly well developed at this point.

I doubt they'll be making sudden and dramtic changes. ;)

yup

easy sends, I only use them for reverb anyway.

and loop recording (stacked tracks).

I suppose it's possible that new users given more time with Tracktion, may see the absence of a mixer as a strength rather than a weakness, although it will be interesting to see if Mackie's obvious position with mixers means there will at least be a mixer included in T2, even with the default option being switched off or disabled.

Tracktion certainly does not need a mixer but that's just my view. 8)

Hi jens nice to see you too... :D You have made a perfectly good point. The orignal idea was to try and come up with a poll that provided at least a general set of options (not every) to vote on regarding future Tracktion features. There have been many useful suggestions in this thread as to how it might have been structured. Point taken...chill jens chill

Agreed I too would like some sort of send feature. Senderella is a good solution for now but I would certainly welcome a simple send in T2.

True dramatic changes are unlikely, but then again I don't think Tracktion 2 is completely finished yet, so maybe changes can be made.

I used to think it was finished with Makcie holding up the release to avoid a clash with S4 and SX3

I doubt Jules gets notifications every time someone posts a message on this thread :D but for me anyway the figures are interesting to see.

Also if any of the features voted for do not make it into Tracktion 2 and Jules wants to add them (poll or not)he can always do so after Tracktion 2 is released. Racks being a typical example, being added after T1's release.

I am one of the lurkers who voted for a mixer. I come from (get ready for it) Cubase (boo, hiss!), and of course I am used to a mixer. But I don't think that's the only reason why I'd like to see a mixer in T. I think Tracktion makes a pretty good emulation of the old magnetic tape workflow (if you've ever recorded to tape, you'll know what I mean). Traditionally, you would have (tada!) a mixing desk. I think this is why you see this in most DAW's.

I don't see the need for "every screw rendered with reflections" etc., but the functionality of a mixer just isn't there in T. When you're adjusting levels in T, it can be very inconvenient to not have all of the volume/pan controls in the same physical row, and the same physical size (I often have alot of "filters" along the right hand side). Some of my level meters end up very skinny when there's multiple filters on that track, when the one below it might be very wide. This is strange behaviour (at least to me) and I would love to see a mixer appear at the bottom when you're ready to mix. Everything else could stay the same, just allow a "mix" button to pop up a mixer with the track names assigned from the arrange area above.

Just my $0.02

It's the multiple desktops on one monitor thingy that
Unix and Linux have had in Xwindows for years.

However: multiple desktops only allows you to flip from desktop 1 to desktop 2. You can't see D1 and D2 at the same time like you can with multiple monitors.
Multiple desktops may be cheaper, but are not 1/2 as effective as multiple monitors.

I'm as proud of you as a Neechian Mr. CMM (yeah, I know the spelling is wrong)
BTW, don't let my screen name fool ya........... 8)

Hey CMM :) Great to see you back (I was beginning to think we'd scared you away for good  )

I coming around to wanting to have an *optional* mixer displayed in the properties section in the lower part of the screen (i.e. not in a seperate Window :x ) - a bit like the one that Tracktion Faction had, but with unlimited tracks, sends, returns, etc. Also track based EQ would be awesome.

Having said that I'm even more keen to see the timestretch thing (like Sonar's groove clips) so that ramped tempo changes for audio and MIDI can become a reality.

But MOST of all I'd like to see the thoroughly wretched and infamous "note-dropping" MIDI & ReWire bug squashed once and for all

That lot would definitely win me back to Tracktion as my main host (I'm missing it with affection at present, while enjoying Live 4 and Audition to bits!)

I hope that T2 will be a full featured editing and recording system like cubase or protools.... but with that beautiful ease of use that traction is all about...

I'd like to see a groundhog on the box.

I tell you, if they release T2 on Feb the 2nd, and have a Groundhog in the sales literature, my respect for Mackie will know no bounds. :D

A mixer would be very nice. I've only been using Tracktion for a few days now, but already I am seeing that I won't be able to finish tracks in Tracktion. When it comes to the mixing stage, I'll have to render each track and bring them in Protools (I have an mbox). I like to mix by seeing the faders in front of me in an obvious way, with metres so you can tell what's going on. I know you're supposed to be "listening to the music", but sometimes it's nice to tell where fades are happening. My mixing technique consists of gaining all tracks up to unity, so each fader is working on the same level of audio, making the visual representation of the song that much more accurate.

I voted for a mixer, but make it an option - I enjoy composing in the current format without a mixer. It's only during the final stages that a mixer becomes needed.

I voted - better midi - it neeeds it
