I went to try these out with a friend. Then when I got them they were locked to his account. Really we are at the place where hardware is also locked down.joris.roling wrote: Tue Jan 05, 2021 12:30 pm ROLI Lightpad Block with this:

I don't understand what you mean with "locked to this account". And also, what do you mean with "hardware is also locked down"?mtelesha wrote: Tue Jan 05, 2021 3:29 pmI went to try these out with a friend. Then when I got them they were locked to his account. That looks like a pretty good solution but at close to $1000.00 C for 4 - maybe I'll keep looking for now.joris.roling wrote: Tue Jan 05, 2021 12:30 pm ROLI Lightpad Block with this:

Past a certain price point, you might as well just build a little Eurorack lunchbox with 4 joysticks and a CV->MIDI converter. Then you'd get to have a cool nest of wires on your desk too!
Lately I've been wondering how easy it would be to turn each of the Linnstrument pads into a little XYZ controller with statically mapped CCs for controlling synth parameters. Surely it could be done by modifying the firmware if one were skilled enough (I am not), but it could probably also be done in software with some clever MIDI filtering/mapping - just listen for a specific note, grab the slide/pitchbend/pressure information from that channel, then map those to whatever CCs you want. Could be an interesting experiment...

One block allows for 4 (actually 5) XY pads (fingers) at once with AxyzGems! So it will control all Zebra's (and Hive's) 4 XY pads at once (one finger per XY). It feels as if you 'touch' the soundTrismos wrote: Wed Jan 06, 2021 4:02 amThat looks like a pretty good solution but at close to $1000.00 C for 4 - maybe I'll keep looking for now.joris.roling wrote: Tue Jan 05, 2021 12:30 pm ROLI Lightpad Block with this:

The blocks couldn't be used by my computer. They were tied to my friend'ss account and if I wanted to use them they had to be released to me. I didn't bother and won't buy from Roli till they make things simpler.joris.roling wrote: Tue Jan 05, 2021 3:57 pmI don't understand what you mean with "locked to this account". I've just received a Novation Launch Control XL which has freed up my original Launch Control. I'm using Zebra2 within Ableton and have the Launch Control in User mode. I can't seem to assign any controls via the midi learn function to control the on screen software knobs located in the XY 1 through 4 tabs. I can't assign midi learn to anything from any of my devices, all of which indicate midi signals in Ableton when moved. The manual makes it seem easy, like, click on the cog, choose L, and have at er. What am I doing wrong?

Have you got it set up properly in Ableton?

C'mon now. Like all men, I only read the manual if it's got sharp spinning blades without guards. Otherwise I plug it in and if it makes noise I grunt in satisfaction and move on. I've had it working fine as a synth but no, I haven't gotten too deep yet. The MIDI learn seemed like it shouldn't be an issue, but here I am. I'll check out those resources. much appreciated.whyterabbyt wrote: Wed Jan 06, 2021 10:39 pm Have you got it set up properly in Ableton?

Okay! Now neither of the articles you mentioned helped as I've been using control surfaces in Ableton for several years now and have them set up properly BUT, you got me playing with things. The learn function within the Zebra 2 GUI is not used here. You click on the little arrow on the Zebra 2 Device in Device View in Ableton and that opens up a Configure menu. Then you go to the Zebra 2 GUI and click on the XY1 tab and then click / select the two knobs associated with x and y, then carry on with the other three and it adds all 8 to the Device. THEN you go to the MIDI mapping in Ableton.
It takes a little getting used to, moving the target around, but it's functional.

How did you get it to work? My Joué Pro is not recognized for X/Y.Joe Leidigkeit wrote: Tue Dec 29, 2020 6:38 pm I use the Joué Pro Controller with 3 X/Y Modules (3 "Area Pads") together with Hive and ZebraHZ and I am quite happy with it. A little expensive, but you get a very versatile, modular MPE controller.

Anyone tried the Luna display to control the XYs of Zebra?

It converts an iPad into a secondary touch display for Mac and Windows.

I use a Korg nanoKontrol - 4 sliders (1 for each Y axis) and the 4 knobs above (1 for each 4 X axis). Lo-tech but easy to set up, and it works for me

Here is my current take on creating an XY controller for TouchOSC. It's mostly cobbled together from the examples, with a few adjustments. I'm still not entirely sure on the layout, especially what to do with the upper part. Any good ideas welcome
