It has become increasingly difficult here over the last 5 years or so. Before that, people were thankful to get stuff second hand for 60% of the original price, now, the few people who show interest often want to lowball you when you offer stuff for 40% of the original price...
The difference is that these days the plugins are being sold by vendors for those kinds of prices in not infrequent sales and there are plenty of plugins coming out of bundles and so on. (There are plenty of posts here talking about plugins and bundles a price points they haven’t been at before).

Replika XT - if you're interested in a cheap path to it then the upgrade is in the NI sale for £12 ($15?) and they're a number of cheap regular licenses floating about in sell&buy etc...

Tracktion BF sale is on. Does jrrshop post these?

Interestingly (obviously?), the plugs that still respect decent SH prices tend to be from devs who don't play the discounting game, Valhalla etc.

Aint that a lesson to us all GaryG - quality is what counts

Be interesting to see how my current sales go - as far as I can tell I am selling even cheaper than anything PA has done, than Melda, and than UVI. Certainly I try to do that
I will never buy Melda again as I dont like their workflow, will never buy PA again as they sell nothing I want and I don t like their business practices, UVI I like a lot but I have settled on a few reverbs and want to reduce how much I have so that I can focus and learn. Wont be devastated if the UVIs dont sell tho

Companies like Waves and PA in particular have disrupted the second hand market. For the prices they are sold it is nothing but hassle to sell their plugins second hand. Now there are so many companies selling plugins and most of them are offering them for low prices or having frequent sales. Many are charging transfer fees making it even difficult to sell stuff second hand.

Just picked up Wedge Force Keemun for $14.99 with voucher at PA.

Don't think it's necessarily about inherent quality, it's just different companies adopting different pricing strategies. Also, transfers being allowed within the EU meant that the s/h market opened up, but obviously volume producers could look at that and see the possibility of capturing that more price sensitive end of the market via price discrimination (which is where PA etc have gone).

The plus side is that for new and young folk getting into audio recording, getting a pretty decent set of plugins, including passable analog emulations isn't completely unattainable and isn't goign to break the bank. The flip side is that even when the transfer fee is reduced to $7 per plugin, it's harder to shift those PA ones that are deeply discounted.

I think it is quality and value for money as well - To me PA plugins are middling quality - quite good but not the best so they are not worth anything like their (effectively bogus) full price. But certainly useable and some are very good - eg DearVR Pro is very good just not as good as products that are much more expensive. So worth it to someone who is not able to spend $500 or more for that functionality. Similarly SILO, which I am also selling is quite good but not even close to something like crusher-X or Dust - Dust is actually cheaper than Silo if you are naive enough or unfortunate enough to buy Silo at the full retail price. So I have had good use of some PA plugins but have upgraded to more powerful ones that cover the similar territory

PA are not so much using a different pricing strategy as using an exploitative marketing technique that creates, in effect, panic buying. It is a high pressure sales technique and as far as I am concerned completely unethical, like any such technique. I find some of their other behaviour unethical as well but wont go into that here.

Nah... I don't think that has changed much. Even u-he plugins seem to sell difficult here, and they never do sales. "Never" meaning that they only do sales every 2 years or something, when there's that great opportunity, when NI does a sale. ;)

I rather think the market is saturated, and people have enough money (or just spend it anyway), and get the plugins new. Things really have changed in the time I've been here. Used stuff sold like hot cakes until 5 years ago or something, then it became increasingly harder.

How about BF-sale on UVI ,.. is there any info ?

I dont remember them going all out cheap for BF - a bit like Melda they seem to have a running sale on one item and then for BF they have the same sort of discount but for everything at once

I agree that the market is saturated. That said with u-he specifically, there was the big NI sale about a year ago, I assume some will have bought the full package for the larger discount even though there were plugins they didn't want/need in there and transfers are free after 9 months so a lot are going to be coming to the market around now.

Post

Ya, the general sale UVI does around this time gives less of a discount than when they have sales on individual products.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.
