Thank you, with cross modulation less is more as it can produce so ugly sounds, especially when the carrier wave is too complex already.muki wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 2:53 pmHA! isn't it funny:Sampleconstruct wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 12:22 pm Testing the cross modulation feature introduced in Pigments version 3.5
yesterday night i've done *exactly* the same:
eng1 sine modulated by eng2 granular female voice
your example is wonderful btw![]()
Arturia Pigments 3 is out!

Seems like after the latest update the CPU performance has improved. Is this related to the Graphics changes?
Anyway, are pigments developers on steroids? Never seen such a rapid development. Kudos!

yes, +1Sampleconstruct wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 4:27 pm with cross modulation less is more as it can produce so ugly sounds, especially when the carrier wave is too complex already.
but with a subtle blending of granular/sample stuff you'll get nice crunchy, random, rough sounds...kinda cool imho

but it is still a 17sec+ initial launch with an initial-window-shambles
sort of resize disorder
introduced with v3.2something - 3.0something was ok,
but with the update somewhere in summer it bacame slow...
...and still remains...

I love Pigments now! Almost seems like a software version of the Microfreak, though I don't actually own one (yet), but from what I can gather.

Hey Pigments Peeps - I didn't want to start a new thread for this - I have a basic usability/functionality question about the Arturia ASC (software center installer).
Would you say it's similar to Native Instruments Native Access? Major differences? Gripes? Pros? Anything to watch out for?
And I see that there's a manual installer. How does activation work with that?
Normally I try to steer away from such things, but Pigments is special, having tried the demo, and am considering (once again) at the $99 price point.

Yes, ASC is kind of like NA. It also serves as an installation/activation central.
Major differences? Hmm... seems to work better than Native Access, although NA works quite good for me as of late. I think I read here once that ASC needs to be online every now and then to keep the plugins activated, but, I can't confirm that really, mostly because I'm online 24/7 anyway. ASC has some additional features, like, provind uninstallation options, and cleaning the plugin preferences.
No idea about the manual installations. I always used ASC.

I downloaded the Pigments installer, but it also requires Rosetta. I sent an email to Arturia to see if a manual install is possible.muki wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 2:45 pmi'm not sure, but afaik you don't necessarily need the software centerpdxindy wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 12:33 am Due to my choice to not use Rosetta, I cannot install Pigments on my new M1-Pro Mac. The Arturia Software Center requires Rosetta to be installed even though Pigments itself is native.
the installers, i.e.: pigment installer, can be downloaded and installed individually

there is Pacifist and/or Suspicious Package,
which lets you extract the package contents and install all those hundreds of files manually
but from what i've seen (with suspicious package) it looks quite complicated
i.e.: complex package with tons of files here&there...
p.s.:
imho suspicious package is a good thing to have in any case....

I have Pacifist and I looked in the Pigments installer, but too complicated for me to figure out. I sent an email to Arturia.muki wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 7:48 pmbummerpdxindy wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 7:19 pm I downloaded the Pigments installer, but it also requires Rosetta.

or you could install rosetta2, and get on with it. rosetta will not: eat your mac, destroy your life, make you uncool, or change your sound.....muki wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 7:48 pmbummerpdxindy wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 7:19 pm I downloaded the Pigments installer, but it also requires Rosetta.

The cool thing about cross modulation with samples is that using a sample as modulator (and a sine wave as carrier) you don't need an envelope for the FM effect, as the sample has its own shape. A piano or marimba sound provide instant FM keys with perfect shape.

oh, i just realized:
it'll be the 3rd or even 4th Xmas that i'll spend the Xmas-holidays exploring pigments
hostingAU is working again with pigments! (was broken since v2 or so...)
how does modulating the filter with an engine work?
in the filter pane the engine and OSC icons are greyed out...

I wish that'd make it sound better, instead of just adding more junk to it.

If Kontakt is anything to go by, check back in 2024-26. MassiveX may have been replaced by then with an entirely new, slightly more updated synth.SLiC wrote: Tue Dec 14, 2021 4:09 pm Another great update for Pigments, now NI...what have you got ready for Massive X to catch up?![]()
