If the Bitwig grid had u-he modules from oscillatos and filters in Diva/Bazille/Hive, I'd actually use the grid!

Just a few points I discovered:

A single surround flag? I thought there are many more surround configurations:

The is_cv of an audio in/out port property looks interesting. What does that mean for an audio port of a plugin? Lower sample rate?

Yeah, re Surround, let's see how it goes. The DAW manufacturers involved at this point of time don't afaik really deal much with surround. OTOH I just saw that another one joined the conversation, and they do surround afaik, so we'll see if there'll be more flags at some point.

I think that's for Eurorack etc integration. So that DAWs don't accidentally pass those signals to speakers, if that's something they know about.

The name is pretty bad, good acronyms aren't hard people. Universal Audio Format, Plugin Audio System, Unchained Plugins, Music Audio Plugin, etc. etc. AUF, PAS, UP, MAP are all better and took 2 seconds to cook up... I like AUF, sounds like the German word auf which is still good as on or up etc. :)
All of those are not really that good either. :)
I'm fine with Clap. BUT...I do see the point about a million other things coming up in the search results because Clap is a common word. Clap instrument plugins (as in hand clap plugins) exist too. Search "Clap Audio Plugin" and you get lots of hits that point to various VST plugins. I think that could be confusing. At least in the short term. Maybe when more clap plugins (the format) exist, that will change. If it's Clever Audio Plugin, then .CAP makes a lot of sense and could solve for some potential confusion. But Urs and the other folks involved have a lot more knowledge about the plugin industry than I'll ever have so I trust they've thought about this and rejected it with good reason.

If Midi becomes more prevalent, would it then be CLAMP? Or if the developer insists on making sure they're distinguished by the Midi2 spec, would it then be CLAM2P?
;)
Yes, the name can spark snarky quips like this forever. And it eventually becomes something I no longer want to hear in most instances.
(e.g. I have a sign in my studio stating that anyone suggesting "more cowbell" will be forced to leave and never again invited in.)

For now, I really don't care about the name. But find myself almost excited about the concept.

I really don't care what the technology is called. I think it's dumb that people are making a big deal about it. All I want to see out of it is that it supports and works well across the various chip architectures, across the various OSes, doesn't hinder the developers in providing what is already there, and helps developers to do more easier. So far, it seems that this is the case.

If CLAP really works out, it shouldn't be a problem to throw a bit of cash on SEO :)

I think so too, but this is goddamn KvR!

I mean it's early days so outside of "what's it do that's better" there's not a whole lot else to talk about. I think the general sentiment is clear: it's a great idea, we hope it's successful! And also, "no way Steiny, Avid, and Apple ever go for this via support in their DAWs" - which seems pretty obvious too.

So we mostly politely bicker or ponder about trivial stuff. ;)

...Or the nerds [excuse me, developers] talk about technical stuff.

Once some DAWs roll-out support and we can use the plugins, there will be a lot more to discuss!

And of course, once some plug-ins come out...

I never used the AAS stuff in Live cause I had the plugins. All the Live versions miss a few features.

I'm happy using u-he plugins in Bitwig... especially if Bitwig per voice modulation can work with u-he CLAP plugins!
Yeah, but I think having quality stock plugins would make Bitwig a much more compelling package than it is now.

We already have a plugin. MFM2! Just need a DAW to stick it in.
