@Hink... Do we have a new level of censorship reached here??

Any problems with the site? How can we improve KVR?

I'm totally with you there. Pretty much daily, beyond my control, I find myself being a dick to a moderator. Wake up people. This could happen to any of us.

Unsarcastically, I have to say what I imagine many here have seen--that threads like these come up periodically--that the OP, pretty much always, only presents a limited perspective/knowledge of what happened, full of assumptions and jumping to conclusions.

Threads like this add up on the shoulders of moderators (I was a moderator on a different forum once) until that one thread becomes the back breaking straw, and the moderator thinks one last time, why the F am I doing this thankless job, and leaves. And when moderators leave, forums get messed up. Sub-forums disappear because nobody want to manage them. Heaps of parallel threads can stack up because nobody is around to combine them.

In my thirty years of spending way too much time on forums, I've only seen Bitch-About-the-Moderator threads serve the egos of the OP and any who pile on--temporarily; and they wound the forum, death-by-a-thousand-cuts style long-term.

Solution: Don't make threads like this. Just don't.

If you have a valid point to make about moderation, then have an actual discussion with that moderator--in a PM and not in some glorified attempt to forum-shame them.

Trancit, TY :)

As for deleting it, sometimes I have to choose between the lessor of two evils...I'm not always going to be right. It is not always easy, I'm sorry if I step on toes but often it cant be avoided. In this case it wasnt about the topic, that person could have expressed himself more respectively, instead he chose the tone for the thread and I rejected it, not the subject. I'll give another example, the copy protection threads, I am very guarded there too...we must be careful with certain words that we use all the time that describe illegal sites "w"..."c'd versions" I dont want to use them...I once demonstrated this to someone who complained I was over the top...I did two searches with each of those common words and the product in the thread (basically asking for unauthorized versions if you will)...the top results in the search was KvR because those are the keywords the search engine picked up on and it was recent.

We are so fortunate to have the developers here, in the forums, with their own forums and ftr Hink has never been motivated by money so I am not protecting advertising...not my thing. But I would hate to see those devs leave because of an unwanted element like that, said threads are equally important imo so we have to strike a balance. You want to call it censorship, it is not. KvR is influential in the industry, of course we have had something to do with companies making major policy changes (like copy protection) because of the feedback here (many other sites as well), it gives us a voice better than just voting with our wallets. I think this relationship with devs is key, again there must be a balance it's awesome and again we are fortunate to have that, but some abuse it and use it to attack and flame. The business end is other's concern...mine is that KvR continues to be a relevant site aiding those involved in music at all levels...oh how I wish we had this in the early 70's when I got my first electric guitar, my gawd the bs that went back and forth from us who knew nothing

Again, I am not perfect...sorry for that...but my intentions are indeed well. :)

This is not at you, just a reaction to one point you said...no one wants this job...you said I should step down because you felt I am not a good mod...my modding aside...I have made a commitment to the community, to Ben and to my fellow mod Dan. I think it really unreasonable to suggest such thing and I get that a lot...I had one person wanting me to not be a mod when I was only the mod of the diy forum, I had no power to do anything outside of that forum (had to ask Meffy to move posts to it, all I could do was move them out or delete them) and this person wanted me to quit because said person didnt like what I had to say. That is pure selfishness imo, it is only one case of many and there will be more before 2002 lands on us. That isnt really offensive to me, it's offensive to the community and our host and I wish people would see it from that angle as well. Instead these people actually accuse me of trying to make KvR what I want.

If nothing else I act as a heat sink for my fellow mods and admin

TY, but can I just say...huge kudos to Trancit for his response to me after...we need more of that, a simple understanding...but again ty :)

As for PM's I am open to that but this year many times my PM's had to be closed because of the trolling PMs I get. So much so I have a new way of thinking online "say it to my face or it didnt happen" and this is not a saying like "I'll kick you ass" simply it's a byproduct of the internet..it's more likely one wouldn't say anything at all and instead of rereading posts and making judgements of people based on that we have actually had a real chance to get to know the person and we just wouldnt :tu:

The presence of developers here is appreciated. I have had direct conversations with coders, company representatives even the developers themselves and always considered those interactions to be highly valuable and noteworthy. From my perspective there aren't too many taboos here. The ones that are in place are known and easily avoided. This remains a good place to visit but if we lose our developer's participation we lose a lot. That is worth protecting in my view. No community is perfect but given the cast of characters that call this place a home, we do alright. Thanks to the mods and the reasonable people here combined with the occasional apology and sporadic/rare (for me) use of the mute button; this is still one of my favorite places to inhabit.

Sorry, what? How is deleting a perfecly reasonable thread that was trying to discuss subscriptions from a valid, unique and positive perspective NOT a censorship? Only because you couldn't make the effort to recognize that? In response to your "yet another subscription thread" I asked you to provide me with a link to other such thread. Instead, you've just deleted it :dog:

Hink wrote: Sat Dec 18, 2021 4:22 pmPerhaps if you saw the history of that person in our logs you would see how wrong you were to make said assumptions.
If you have a problem with me, suspend or ban me. Don't sneak around deleting my threads.

maybe asking for the link in a less rude manner? making comments about reading comprehension, not a good idea or look really.

ie you didn't have to be a dick about it

not saying you are a dick btw, just that was a dick move.

Guess I got your attention this time

we have with you and it hasn't worked, suspensions, board warnings, banning is never an answer and it wasnt arbitrary, it was 100% your choice...how about you accept your role in this, you think its ok to abuse us? We dont deserve that kind of crap, we are just trying to do the best we can, try a little respect.

FTR deleting is an awesome tool because it gets attention, even more important is the thread is still there and could be restored in a second, you assuming otherwise now

...but you came here, accept no responsibility and double down, you might have just sent me a respectful pm, thats why we soft delete. But again, they are all soft deletes, the only place I delete a complete delete is in hpc when I purge, there are even soft deleted threads still there...this is on you, you made the wrong choices, not me...we have already written the rules, it's your responsibility to read them and follow them, I dont need to explain a thing but I still spend plenty of time trying to explain.

No I will not restore the thread, anyone else is welcome to start a new one and I will move all the posts there except from this poster here who will not be welcome in said thread, at least not until he understands I have better things to do here on Kvr than babysit and get abused.

there's a correct way to deal with such things.
like the op here, if you feel you have a legitimate complaint, ben, is the man to speak to.

otherwise, in general life, it's better not to antagonise people with the ability to do things that really piss you off.
