My only complaint is that I wish it was longer. Excellently done as always.
I expect nothing less from you.
PS - You really need to post more often. Too many of the great artists here spend way too much time away.

In short - it has a lot of parallel movement in perfect 4ths (mixed in with other approaches that slightly dilute the effect)...
Singing in parallel fourths, fifths, and octaves was very typical of certain medieval music styles.
So, I've never sung in fourths anywhere, except for neo-baroque music of the year 19?? - otherwise only in fifths or using the fifth tone!

nice that you are back. and a nice little piece too! i wish, you will have success with your projects.
i imagine that keeping the pieces short, has to be very difficult sometimes. when i imagine i should just improvise for a minute somewhere and then i have presented the basic idea, before i even start ... def. not easy.

Keeping pieces short, but still reasonably satisfying and 'complete', definitely requires a different way of approaching it all, but you do get used to it after you've done a few!
As for singing / playing in 4ths in certain styles of medieval music, here's a simple example of what I was referring to...
Free Organum (10th and 11th Centuries):
Added voice moves note-against-note using a variety of intervals, but particularly perfect fourths, perfect 5ths, octaves and unison...

I didn't go back in time, that long... and i know the example - it is (at least they say) from Tutilo from St. Gallen. It is the second piece in our choir-book used during study. never liked it that much, but that's why i remember it. I was thinking about fourths as imperfect, but that came later and not that early... next time I'll think a little longer before I question anything
but hey - overall i was just cracking a joke. don't take it too serious, please

Naah, I didn't take it as a competition at all, not my style...I'm not into such binary thinking!
Hah! well I did say 'medieval'!
I won't!
Ha! the sometimes controversial and prohibited augmented fourth / diminished fifth / diabolus in musica ...let's not go there!

ChameleonMusic,
Sounds like you are using high quality soft-synths in the whole song. Very nice melodies! Sounds great all around. I could picture this in a movie. Excellent job!

Thanks for having a listen. Always appreciated! Yeah, I like my winter music to be 'Nordic'!vata44 wrote: Sun Dec 19, 2021 10:15 pm+1VCA-089 wrote: Sun Dec 19, 2021 5:04 pm It has a fantasy vibe in it. It may fit as a soundtrack for some RPG videogame. I like how it keeps nordic winter atmosphere and not trying to be another "Gingle Bells" interpretation.
Great production and good background music for something in the holiday, mystical spirit.

Thanks Ian - glad you enjoyed it! yeah, it could be longer...originally was sketched out that way in draft and will be extended at some point when I find time!Bansaw wrote: Mon Dec 20, 2021 12:08 am Nice, liked the flurries and the bells.
Wished it was longer.
Always quality productions...we've missed you around here.
THOSE BELLS - a sampled carillon...(basically a keyboard style setup that plays real bells - often in a tower above the keyboard room)
Only 15 remain in the UK now and I'm very lucky to be about 3 miles from one the largest and best... the Bournville Carillon in Birmingham...played it a few times over the decades...awesome experience!

I finally made it to the UK in the Summer, after many postponed flights.
Actually visited the Birmingham area, Penkridge. Wife was taking a course there.

Ha!
I got to play a proper church organ once in Saint Riquier France, and yeah I couldn't get enough.

I know Penkridge VERY well - had family there for decades. Thanks Frantz - real carillons come in all shapes and sizes, but I think this sample library has been done very well. The bells actually never play on their own - even at the beginning there is that Niguliste Organ from Tallin in the background and I think it does just add a little bit of extra depth to the sound...almost 'in-between' the bell hits as they die away each time...yeah, impossible for you to comment as you haven't heard the bells without it!Frantz wrote: Mon Dec 20, 2021 5:34 am I especially liked the opening with the carillon. The bells have a magical quality. The piece builds nicely but is over quite quickly. A little gem that is worth multiple repeat listens.
Over quite quickly - I will extend this at some point as I do like the main melody and it's simple enough to be developed in various directions.
That coment is much appreciated! Short pieces are always tricky to create! They have to 'go somewhere' pretty damn quickly for obvious reasons, but also have to have an internal continuity and structure that works...A little gem that is worth multiple repeat listens
I'm gonna shut up...talking sh#t!
