I think someone said Clever Audio Plugin.
BAP - Brilliant Audio Plugin
CRAP - Communist Revolutionary Audio Plugin
FAP - Fine-ass Audio Plugin
GAP - Glorious Audio Plugin
...
...
ZAP - Zetetic Audio Plugin
(¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It was the best I could do...)

So many other names come to mind.
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

Oh boo hoo! You don’t get to change the name to what you want. Guess you’ll take your toys and run home to Steinberg...

No one here has been condescending to you. You want condescending? Here you go:

To prove my own dinosaur swamp-creds, I use Synthedit tools every week, UGO, AlgoMusic, MaxSynths, H G Fortune, Psychic Modulation, Krakli ...kept the babies when the bathwater went walkabout for a season, but I do hope for Synthedit resurgence.
If clap helps, I'm all for it.

Agreed! It would be very cool if Synthedit rose again with CLAP support!

I hope the "CLAP" format gets renamed to "Gonorrhea" so that some people can get even more mad at it.

Or Herpes. Everyone has it! :D

@ Urs,
Maybe this is too early or commercially sensitive or both, but can you say anything about commitments / expressions of interest / etc from DAW or plug-in developers?

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
You look like the proper entity to take on Steinberg.

(and the arguments here do help your user base, as it has been proven with actual arguments in previous posts).

There's more people showing interest every day. As of today there are many companies/developers on either side of the aisle who show interest, and also hardware companies (apparently also because CLAP supports MIDI 2 and thus it is possible for them to integrate hardware with DAWs without additional means).

However, interest != commitment. We are working on proof of concept (actual complex plug-ins running in actual complex hosts) as the main tool to turn interest into commitment.

Thus, in a few weeks we think we'll see u-he betas of CLAP plug-ins among quite a few others, and at least one initial implementation in one popular host, maybe two. We hope this will be the beginning of announcements and statements form others, hopefully with some positive news.

Thank you for that info - it's sounding good :)

CLAP is really interesting and from user point of view It deserves commitment from developers. Is, as It Is now, BitWig the only one host with an initial CLAP support? (Crossing my fingers for Reaper pre-release versions to open their bench for CLAP testing) ....PS as a long term u-he users (i own almost everything e use u-he stuff daily) i'm really glad to be user of such a forward thinking "digital factory".

You actually voted on the name?
Urs wrote: Mon Jan 24, 2022 4:09 pm (the name is the least important thing about it atm. As long as people get upset about it rather than the interface and concept itself, I'm totally happy. I guess a nice side effect is that it keeps people occupied channeling destructive energy on unimportant things while elsewhere other people make the actual decisions, bringing things forward)
Commenting on the crude name is "destructive energy"? Ummm ok.... :?

I would place a fair amount of importance on what something is called especially if you're aiming for widespread and long term acceptance.

Clap:
"It is a reference to the French word "clapier," which means brothel, a place where STDs such as gonorrhea can be transmitted. It describes an early treatment for gonorrhea, which was clapping a heavy object on the man's penis to get pus/discharge to come out".

Still sound like a good name? Maybe vote again.....

Anyway it really doesn't matter what the new format is called if it doesn't gain acceptance throughout the industry. Since the format is in its infancy let's check back next year and see what progress is made.... :tu:

I can not make promises on behalf of other companies. I know of several DAW manufacturers who are either actively working on CLAP support or planning to support it, but I don't know anyone who said "yes, we're definitely gonna do this and we'll be ready in a few months".

Seems that Cockos Reaper was experimenting with CLAP which doesn't surprise me
