Well to me looks like it is, because VST is proprietary format with behaving owner.
And I'm sure some are hoping for that, but I think it's realistic today that VST3 won't go away in a hurry. CLAP will play nicely with VST3, it isn't either or. As I said before, I think CLAP will help to make more stable and more full featured VST3 plug-ins from existing codebases.

That's immediately obvious to developers who swap VST2 for CLAP as their main format. They were restricted to the feature set of VST2. Which IMHO is part of the reluctance to support VST3. With CLAP as their main format however it'll be easy to support VST3. Same if they have their own internal format but used VST2 for their automated test and stuff, like we did.

(they can't necessarily switch to VST3 as their main format because it simply doesn't lend itself to be adaptable to other formats, e.g. for the lack of MIDI, for the way it's separation of UI and DSP is designed and also quite simply for the weirdness of the com model its based on.)

It’s not about being against anyone, it’s about one’s livelihood not being at the mercy of a misbehaving owner. Saying that the owner is not misbehaving shows that you do not have a full understanding of the legal situation. Also, because CLAP can be easily wrapped into VST3 format, it’s not meant to overthrow anyone, it’s meant to make programming easier for developers to produce both formats in an easier way. You program once in CLAP format, wrap in VST3 format, and easily publish both at the same time. Neither VST3 nor CLAP will go away. They’ll work together for the common good. :tu:

Just chiming in to say I asked another german company about providing CLAP format of their plugins and they said it looks easy enough to be a weekend job :D I think that's one of the major points.

Sorry if it has already been asked but (out of curiosity) does CLAP bring any benefit about porting a x86 plugin to M1 (or any other ARM format)?

None that I'm aware of.

CLAP got news coverage in the German CT magazine:

It basically says:
- CLAP is here
- done by Alex which is the best
- MFM will support it
- Bitwig will support it
- Surge XT will support it
- more to come
- they will rule the world

or something like it :D

Of course their secret plans for world domination are behind a paywall! I can only see the innocuous bits. :x
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(
