I guess we have different definitions of what a sampler is. It's all good though, we don't have to agree on what a sampler is.Teksonik wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 5:58 pmMulti-samples with key ranges, velocity switching etc etc. Doesn't have to be 400 gigs but it's got to be more than 8 samples.
I'm just giving my definition of a Sampler as opposed to Loop Player. Like I said above if this is the tool you're looking for then by all means pay your $10 and have fun.....Synth Master Jedi wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 5:46 pmThe Waves sampler is not Kontakt and that's a good thing. I have the full Kontakt. This is totally different than Kontakt and its for a different use.![]()
The first samplers I used back in the day could only sample for a second or two and they didn't do anything like multi-sampling or velocity switching etc. They were still samplers none the less.
And yes, I did already pay my $10 yesterday and I think that the combo of $10 for the sampler + $0 for Cosmos is the best $10 I've spent in a while on any audio plugins.

Its the perfect replacement for my ancient Akai S 612. And that was a sampler, capable of playing one sample…
Can Kontakt do that Flat effect? I never heard of that in any sampler, it can even do simple granular stuff… It turns samples into a sound design tool… It doesn’t claim to be Kontakt…

Thats my view on what sampler is as well. Never thought it might be mistaken for something else. Isnt Kompakt more of a rompler?Synth Master Jedi wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 6:08 pmI guess we have different definitions of what a sampler is. Nevertheless CR8 looks great if you want to put a single sound or a loop into the project in eg. Reaper. So I grabbed it, will be checking it out today, but it has everything I wanted, so am really hyped!

Not at all, Kontakt is an extremely powerful, deep sampler. You can do all kinds of crazy synthesis stuff with it, if you want to go there. But you can also use it like a simple sampler from the 80s, of course. It’s probably true that most people are using Kontakt as an advanced rompler, though.kPere wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 10:21 am Thats my view on what sampler is as well. CR8‘s selling point is that it’s a fresh design, easy to use, yet still quite flexible, and they don’t have to care about backwards compability and so on.

Would be nice if Cosmos tags at the top would have more than one row as you resize the gui.

Wish you could reorder the folders. I am adding my big sample packs individually so I can restrict the search to specific packs and I am stuck with the order I added them in.

You owe it to yourself to check it out, though.Ploki wrote: Tue Feb 15, 2022 7:43 pm Ngl, Cre8 looks like fun.
If logic didn't have Quick Sampler i'd probably be all over this (despite it being waves).
There's some disadvantages compared to Quick Sampler, namely the not too shiny filters and envelopes, but it's doing *way* better at time stretching and - most of all - it's offering that amazing sort of granularizing/wavetable-ing manual speed mode, allowing you to scan through the sample seamlessly (kinda like Alchemy but way easier to realize).
Really, it's amazing how you can throw pretty much anything at it and get some very useful, partially pretty unique sounds. Experimental fun with pretty much all hoops to get there removed.
I may sound like a Waves company shill - but in fact, I'm quite the opposite. This is the only Waves plugin I ever purchased. But in case you're into sample mangling, if there ever was a no-brainer virtual instrument, it's got to be this.

If you dont use Ableton, then this is a good purchase. Useless for Ableton users I think because simpler and sampler are a lot better, and have less artifacts.
I do like how the browser is attached. It would be better if it was within the plugin menu, and not a second pop up

If you think of CR8 as a "loop player", then you haven't even touched its surface at all. Sure, it can play loops as well. But it's as well an instrument offering a whole lot of very creative options through some pretty easy to grasp interface. Kinda similar to Serato Sample but with synthesis options on top.Teksonik wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 5:58 pm I'm just giving my definition of a Sampler as opposed to Loop Player.
And no, it's defenitely not the kind of sampling engine to build hyperrealistic natural sounding libraries with - but in my book that's not the only thing sampling is good at. In fact, in the early days of sampling, samplers couldn't even do that. CR8 on one hand side is like an oldfashioned sampler - but on 2022 steroids. At least in a way - there's some things left to be desired without any doubt, the lack of an option to create realistic sounding instruments however not being among them. If you're into that kinda thing, stick with Kontakt.
