Louis2001 wrote: Thu Mar 03, 2022 9:21 pm Today, I have learned that Eventide is not a company I want to make any deals with in the future, based on my experiences with their intransparent and shady business practices regarding their upgrade to Anthology XII, punishing customers who purchased a lot from them in the past, and their customer service. In the past, I had purchased separate licenses for Anthology XI, Clockworks bundle, H9 series bundle and Physion, and my upgrade price is 39$, so all I get for paying this PLUS losing my right to sell my separate licenses, is SplitEQ. I contacted the customer service to ask how much an upgrade only from Anthology XII would cost, because I wanted to know how much I would have saved when selling my additional licenses except Anthology XI BEFORE upgrading, but they refused to answer my question.
I am not willing to support a company that does not treat their customers as mature persons and does not want them to make informed decisions based on transparency.
Nothing personal against you, but this attitude confounds me. Shady? It's a $39 upgrade. And they'll probably add plugins to the bundle at no cost [but don't make a decision now based on what may or may not happen in the future].

How much does SplitEQ cost? $179. They're offering it to you for $39. That's a huge discount. How much more off do you want? Free? The trade-off is you lose the ability resell some plugins. What do you want? A $0 upgrade AND the ability to sell off all your duplicate licenses, thus bastardizing future sales for Eventide and allowing others to also benefit from a cheaper upgrade? Would you prefer Eventide paid you to upgrade?

I'm sorry, I just don't understand. You realize Eventide is a business right? There are a lot of people who work there and need to be paid - families to feed - bills to pay - all that stuff. And does anyone remember how unobtanium an Eventide anything was a few years ago? Their pricing has become really down to Earth in recent years. But a $39 upgrade price is getting them beat up on forums.

There's nothing shady about it. Either upgrade for $39 and get the $179 plugin at a huge discount with more likely to come in exchange for the ability to resell individual plugins, or just wait for SplitEQ to go on sale and buy it standalone. Or not at all. There's nothing shady about any of this. The fact that you know about it in advance is the opposite of shady. This isn't a bait and switch, it's a "here's the deal, take it or leave it" and then you decide. That's called transparency.

There are some folks here who own a LOT of Eventide stuff and are getting hit with much higher upgrade prices. I can understand their frustration. I might even contact support if I thought I had a really unfair deal. But to complain about a $39 upgrade is just too much for me. Apologies.
Ok, next time you can surrender your laptop and house...Come on, I think you just don't understand the problem. It is NOT just $39. For many people this deal might be beneficial, but if you own many plugins and bundles before surrendering, the relation between what you get and what you give becomes more and more disadvantageous.

Because a license is permission, not property. It's a contract that allows YOU to use someone else's intellectual property. The IP isn't yours to sell. Bypassing the owner of the intellectual property and selling your access to it to someone else is no different than piracy.

It cuts the IP holder out, robbing them of control over their own work, and the license fees that should have been paid to them, not you.

Sorry but you are talking absolute bullish**. Reselling personal licenses is not only allowed by law, but it is explicitly considered as a fundamental consumer right. Accordingly, you have the official option in iLok license manager, in agreement with the software vendors. With the same argumentation, you could call any sale of used goods "piracy".

I'm trying to sell my extra licenses before upgrading to prove the point.

OK so what's the deal...

- I own a bunch of Eventide plugins and bundles (H9)
- My upgrade to Anthology is $80
- Do I lose all of my individual pre-existing licenses if I upgrade?

But how would that work?

Wouldn't your upgrade price increase if you sell off some of your existing plugs?

I guess so, here is the response i got when asking what licenses i would have to surrender :

Hello,
I just checked and you are eligible for the $39.95 upgrade to the Anthology XII bundle. To upgrade, you will need to surrender the following licenses:
H9 Plug-In Series Bundle
UltraReverb
Anthology XI
UltraChannel Native
Undulator
SP2016 Reverb
SplitEQ

If the upgrade from Anthology 11 to 12 is 200$, i assume i might be able to sell my other licenses for more (?). The H9 at half price is already worth more than 200$...

Oh, I see. I think that people are getting different upgrade prices depending on what exactly they own etc.

My upgrade from 11 to 12 was $160. Others have gotten it for less than that too.

Legal does not equal moral or ethical.
Courts make bad decisions all the time, as the ECJ did in UsedSoft v Oracle. But a bad law that legalizes an unethical or immoral practice does not make the practice suddenly moral or ethical. The US Supreme Court did not make slavery moral or ethical with Dred Scott v. Sandford.

Putin is legalizing software piracy in Russia. Will you cite that as justification next?

Hmmm, so I was mainly interested in upgrading to Anthology for Split EQ, but have been watching some vids on Tverb and wow, seriously impressed. No idea why I overlooked it since release.

Definitely making the upgrade more attractive now.
