Hey its a beta, you should expect exactly that. If you don‘t want to waist time on this kind of issues, simply stick with stable releases…
I hope you learn from this miss and read the warnings which come with betas…
This change did not only concern the Beta!
Ok, I didn‘t know, I follow Linux issues only occasionally out of curiosity…
I understand your point of view.
My criticism targets this "surprise" and the total lack of testing that change, not the change in general. I expect a software developer, who expects me to pay regularly money for such a development to run such checks instead of re-functioning the users as Alpha-/Beta-Testers. If there's no further testing targeted after compiling, then I'm away from all these experiments. Beta is commonly known as a state, in which the roughest errors are already eliminated. And errors, which concern the system directory tree and permission issues I personally see quite rough, as they concern the contact of the DAW to the system instead of its function as DAW at all - basically!

So as stated: That was an Alpha, not a Beta - and for sure no Pre-Release.

If you know how - nice for you. But I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who doesn't know!.

BTW... Even though music producing is a hobby of me (still ... yet), I know for sure, that no real full time producer is willing to spend time for such a fumbling inside an operating system only for reasons based on convenience. There are already not little producers who avoid Bitwig Studio for reasons of distraction (well... that is an individual point of view, of course...), but ... system works only to make a DAW running with all hard- and software, which - before such an infantile change - worked seamlessly, is simply a very bad joke and everything worth than a 400€-license!
Of course "Never change a running system" leads to living corpses, to software-zombies over time, but changing software without a reasonable testing is simply a big mess, a lot of users frustration and hardly is worth much money!

And we even don't know by now, if all the hardware (and of course the software necessary to run them together with the system) was really fully compatible with that so-called "solution".

To say it in clear words: A solution is worth to be called a solution, if it helps the majority of users. And that's definitely not the case concerning flatpak.
Not so many moons ago i even posted a finding here that there is a script for Fedora around that can handle .deb to .rpm, a while after, BAM! no more .deb? :)
Anyway, it was a beta (early release/testing thingie! what 'evs) :) and thanks to user feedback, they are going back to .deb so, use what ever works for you, even Windows or Mac, 8-track tape? what 'evs. ;)
This is even More sensitive than when they added color on knobs, EQ, there was hell on earth for a short while, and that was colors, this is a working DAW/WINE/Plug-ins to be or not to be, and a tad more justified to be nervous in public about it ;) ;)
As for Flatpak,Snap,Appimage i don't think i care as long as all is working as it should be, i think.. hmm :)

I’ve been really enjoying the convolution device.

To test it I recorded my partner and I having sex, then I convolved it with a few instruments in my project.

Not enough to consciously notice it but still enough for people to think “I dunno why but that song is sexy AF.”

Thank you Bitwig for helping me adding even more sexiness to my tracks.

Yeah i noticed in nature now that the birds/ducks are absolutelly bonkers in full gear and fighting full UFC-mode for the ladies, think that goes for froggs also? :)
Send my best to Miss or Mrs.Piggy ;)

You're on Linux which has a relatively small user base who should be technically above average, and this is definitely a BETA. Regular users don't get Alphas. It just isn't constructive to complain about BETA software. Your early access is helpful if you give the developers good feedback, which hopefully you have.

So, Would actually a Snap-Bitwig work better (in theory) or something else? because the tech does things different, or something? I dunno, but not scared of asking :p :)

latency matters

i repeat latency matters
What does that mean?
I think it means EQ+ has uncompensated latency that can cause phasing issues.
Thanks. That had gone right over my head!

Snap does the samé (a bit differently ;).
'Normal' packages or a package with installer (like on Windows) are the two (user-friendly ;) options.

But only if you have it on a parallel channel, or have a parallel channel sent pre fx.

Plus, it's probably not the only uncompensated plug in out there.

I mean, they should do something like not enable compensation when loading if audio is playing, then enable it after the next stop/play- but - also it's not the end of the world if you have any other EQ plug that you can use on a parallel track.

**and yes, I emailed them that suggestion of how to work around it, without adding a glitch when loading on the fly while audio is playing

*Doh!* I see, but i was thinking some people just looOoove to bully Snap for some reason, so it can't be the same as Flatpak atleast, but all-right-y-then, no chance to make it .RPM since Lord Torvalds lives there? no? oki.. ;) ;)
Thanks RC, all back to normal then :)

Hey guys. I've wrote a little script for unpacking .flatpak version and installing Bitwig as a regular app (to /opt/). Maybe someone will find this useful. With this, all my yabridged plugins just work. And Vital too. I tested it on Fedora Workstation 36 with latest Bitwig 4.3 beta 2.

Beamboom say .deb will be back with the next release, but i really like that this is possible also :)

It just isn't constructive to complain about BETA software. Your early access is helpful if you give the developers good feedback, which hopefully you have.
Somehow you are right, but somehow you also miss something very important: Maybe not all these users have enough time left in their normal life to take the time and learn enough about flatpak, its concepts, goals, all commands and related options (and yes, that's a lot of stuff....).
When people find out that I am an electrician, they have an "image" in their mind (like your image of the "classic" Linux user), the "classic" image of electricians that they know from the media and maybe from some personally known electricians. But I bet most of these people expect me to know things I've never heard of (because they're just not part of my specific knowledge ... maybe my specific knowledge doesn't cover their "image" of a "common" electrician ... because they have no real idea of what a typical electrician really is ... if there even is such a thing).

In short, of course I am able to find my way through all of this, but in order to find that way, I have to stop other activities because.... any such "finding my way" consumes time - and a day is limited to 24 hours (anywhere in the world, by the way - including you!). I am just not able to take care of this knowledge as long as I don't want to give up other activities, which are not less important.

Rem: Sometimes it would be very helpful if everyone would think about whether a statement is based on real life or on prejudice.

Edit: BTW, Bitwig Studio as such is meant to be "production software" and not something to play with (like a toy). As such, it should go without saying that most of your time can be spent on (music!) production, rather than having to first find a way to at least make it work (!!!). That's why the price for it is reasonable. As a toy, it would just be way too expensive for me (and I'm pretty sure, not only me...).
Another point to all those arguing this was "only a Beta"... what do you think the Upgrade Plan was primarily made for? According to my information it is menat to get access to Betas and pre-releases mainly. so if they wouldn't be supposed to be functional, it would become uninteresting for several users... I strongly doubt, if that really is desired...

After watching a bunch of videos on the new 'delay+' I caved and bought the update (I was going to wait for the Summer sale but I have next week off (double bank holiday- thanks UK Queen!) so want it now!

I had missed the last update as well, so I get a bunch of + effects and midi grid...I must admit the new fx sound amazing, delay+ in particular...as a guitarist I can pretty much get anything I want from Bitwig natively now which is pretty amazing....glad to be back up to date with an entire year of free stuff to come :-)
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!
