Melda's smart randomize feature leaves all others in the dust, but I wonder if a mode (modifier-click) that uses only user presets could lead to more personalized results?

Other options would be to include all presets but give more weighting to user/favorite presets, or only use favorites. This would likely work best for MXXX do to the number of presets.

If randomize is just using existing presets for the overall parameter max/min values and user presets are unlikely to make much difference, a cool mode for MXXX would be to randomly mix modules from existing presets, but keep their settings intact. Combine a reverb, delay, autopan from 3 existing MXXX presets.

Also I'm curious if MXXX randomizes based on the parameter values of modules in it's own presets, or only uses values for presets saved for each plugin/module? I.e. if a user has 100 MXXX presets with a delay, but only 10 presets for the delay itself does it only use those?

Perhaps individual plugins could use values from when those are included in MXXX presets as well.

The feature is already great as is, just throwing out a few ideas to expand on it. :tu:

Well, it currently uses a predefined system of hidden presets to produce reasonable results. Unfortunately it's super-easy to create a set of presets, which would just produce garbage in some cases, so no plans of including user presets I'm afraid.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification. I thought it was based on the visible presets.
Just to clarify, by "user presets", I don't mean the ones shared online, but ones saved by the local user which by definition would be least likely to be "garbage" based on individual taste.

Even being better than any other randomization I've tried it's still hit or miss, but something interesting is usually only a few clicks away.

Worth considering as an extra mode at some point in the future.

A "randomizer" strategy that works quite well is to go to individual modules in a MXXX preset one has done before and do CTRL-click on the "Random" button (if the respective module has one. not all do). This does small step changes that do not totally change the settings. Then a little bit of thinking which additional modules would complement the current effect. Adding them here and there. A few clicks on the "Dice" (randomly select from all presets) in individual modules until something sonically interesting shows up and then "CTRL-Random" a few times ends often in interesting results that can be further developed to good presets. After knowing the individual modules better you start to do more and more tweaks in between the randoms and the whole process gets even quicker.

This semi-random technique has the advantage of always starting with presets that produce sonically acceptable results and only changing them gradually. Using "Random" without CTRL in my experience mostly produces unusable results.
