Hey, hermu, I've been there, I've mistakenly thought Jo is being very closed minded about certain fr's too. But honestly it was my mistake! It's simply that Jo has too little time and resources to do everything and has to be careful what his time is spent on. It's not a personal thing, though I know, it can feel that way. So, don't go down that road ;)

There usually needs to be good reason for something to be worth implementing. That reason could be many users request it, or like in this case, a solid reason was given in the end. Either way, Jo can't add a feature just cos someone asks for it, it's just not feasible.

i agree with cousin_tt, press Esc could have a unexpected side effect and close other open plugins.
If Esc would close a plugin window it would mean that the key focus is on that plugin window hence it would not take action in the composer window.

If Esc would close the part editor and return to main composer view it would mean that the key focus is on the composer window hence it would not take action in a plugin window.

So i don't see any problematic interference.
In both Reaper and Cantabile there is no element in Mulab plugin that accepts ESC. No matter what I'm doing in Mulab plugin, ESC will always close the plugin window.
Please consider adding a dedicated hotkey.

It already is on the wishlist, cfr earlier message.
But you added an extra reason to add it.
Indeed relying on Esc can be ambiguous in a host-plugin context.
Thx for highlighting this.

Thanks!
For completeness, ESC does close popup menus in Mulab plugin.

Yes any window separate from the main plugin window will response normally on key strokes. It's only about the main plugin window because there is that typical shameful fight for key strokes between host and plugins. There should be a neat protocol for handling key strokes when using plugins in hosts.

Does VST3 address anything like that?

I don't know yet, was wondering about that myself too.
