Wow! Sounds awesome!
Before this video, i thought of Backbone as a drum layering instrument. But this sounds great.
The quality of resynthesis and time-stetching in Backbone is really top notch.
Is there anything better than backbone that you have tried? I want to do a little shopping.
Padshop has a very similar spectral re-synthesis engine including the purity/formant parameters plus it adds LFOs and other modulators but it doesn't have Backbone's spectral filter and the slow down/speed up parameters.

Then there is of course Alchemy 2 (Logic only) which offers additive/spectral resynthesis and audio-morphing between 4 sources.

The good old Metasynth (Mac only).

IRCAM Stretch in Falcon is a very good time-stretching engine which can separate the sound into 3 components (transient/tonal/noise).

IRCAM TS is also pretty good for stretching but it only slows things down up to 25% of the original speed.

You gotta right click the parameter in backbone and then add new automation parameter before configuring in live.

Thank you, that worked.

Maybe a stupid question but i bought Backbone as it was released some months ago.. As a mac user and non Cubase user, i'm a little but confused how to update to the 1.5 version, it never showed up any of the updates, still on 1.2 !

Any idea? Running it on the latest OS from Mac OS on a Intel machine...

Resynthesis seems interesting, but it really should be using it to create a dynamic performance on the fly, which it doesn't seem to do. It looks like it only creates a one-shot "sample." Am I missing something?
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

That's what I was wondering myself. Can it be used to trigger sounds like a regular drum sampler or do you create one shot wave files and export those out to a sampler?

Update: I demo'd it myself. You simply save the sounds you've created/altered, then import them into your sampler of choice. In my case, ADSR Drum Machine.

I haven't used a Steinberg product since 2002 or thereabouts, but Backbone looks interesting. How much do Steinberg charge for updates and are there worthwhile sales, or do sales only happen prior to paid updates?
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

Is that likely to mean a paid update is coming soon?

Nope. It was on sale a couple of times before. And the update from 1 to 1.5 (with all the new interesting features) was free anyway.

Quick question re: Backbone, I don't own any Steinberg plugs so would I have to re-authorize every every 30 days or what have you? Or could I authorize/register just once online when I buy it and use it offline w/out further hassle?

You can go online to authorise and then disconnect. No need to re-authorise or go online to "refresh".

Hey thanks Amon. Backbone looks dope so I was hoping that'd be the answer, this is good news. Well from a gas pov maybe not so much. I couldn't really find anything definitive elsewhere online and I have a no reauthorizing my plugins policy.
