I'm not really interested in OB-XTreme at all but I really love VSDX (Simmons) and VPROM (LinnDrum). Would happily pay for Apple Silicon support on both, but sounds like that will be a while. Right now I'm using the AU's, which work, but don't provide for the best experience.

I agree, product roll out is pretty abysmal.

Pros
-Good stereo placement
-Great distortion
-Very good bottom end
-can be tamed
-overall exceptional sound quality (ignore the shitty demos on youtube, I dont think Aly posted good demo videos at all)

Cons
-Voice card page is useless
-Spectrogram non functioning
-Presets are trash
-no preset arrow buttons on main page
-no effects
-no resizing UI

The voice card page doesnt seem to function at all whatsoever. I dont think he is finished coding the plugin to be honest.

I think it sounds amazing though, overall, super happy that it was only $45

However, I totally understand if others want to wait, and I totally encourage waiting because I truly dont think the plugin is even done yet as far as how it was coded. It needs work, and releasing a plugin with a non functioning voice chip page is ridiculous tbh

The v2 demos are pretty basic but if you go through the audio demos for v1 on the website, you'll get a clearer idea of what's possible. And maybe the operation isn't as "professional" as Native Instruments or U-He but it's just one guy and his passion. He's got a life and a family, just like the rest of us, and he puts as much time into his software as he can manage. Do you not bother with music from hobbyists? Give the poor guy a break, FFS.

Sounds like Aly has dodged a bullet, then.

Aly uses SynthEdit for part of his development, with his own custom coded modules, so he's hamstrung with what he can push out of SE. Apparently Apple Silicon support is in beta within SE so it will happen eventually, but on someone else's timeline.

It's pre-release. Don't expect a full launch until September. I think Aly was just getting it out so I'd stop hassling him on a release date.
-Voice card page is useless
I like it, it's the best implmentation I have seen. Diva's is far too fiddly and the ANALOG knob in Obsession is perhaps a bit too simplistic, where having half-a-dozen detune sliders for different parts of the cards offers the best compromise, I think. It's quick, easy and effective. OK, maybe it's a lot of screen space for a few little sliders but I think maybe Aly has more plans for it.

I exchanged a couple of emails with Aly last night and he has clarified a few things, which he's asked me to pass on to all the lovely people here at KVR.

Where OB-Xtreme is at at the moment is PRE-RELEASE. He is planning the final release for September so if you don't want to try something that isn't 100% ready for prime time, you can wait until then. Right now the only V2 presets are the couple of things in the "NEW" category. All the others are V1 patches, which explains why some of them don't really sound like what they are meant to be. e.g. a couple of the plucks have sustain and weird stuff like that. This means that most of the presets are only using a fraction of the full feature set of V2. I'm not sure whether it is feature-complete at this stage but it's definitely in working order and seems stable on my set-up with Studio One.

Realsitically, then, OB-Xtreme is in beta and for a beta release it's in very good shape. Aly has asked everyone he sent a pre-release email to for feedback so if you have the new version and would like to give him some useful, constructive feedback you can email him personally or put it up here and I'll get it to him. But maybe wait a week or two until you've got a list of things, rather than bombard him with emails every time you find something new.

I hope this clarifies where things are at and sets more realistic expectations for everyone moving forward.

He dodged a sale so if that was his plan he definitely succeeded. :tu:

And now he wants you to beta test it for him.......

No, basically he wants me to deal with the arseholes around here so he can get on with doing something useful. Needless to say, I am more than happy to oblige.

Great then :tu: Till the final release :)

By the way, I found the demos great because they reflect "real life" usage! I could spot the OBxtreme sound easily and I like it! It is like how I want to use it. In the intro maybe but sure in the background if not on your face, but he did well with the guitar and organ. Nice demoes! I really like them :)
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Post

yea bones, I can now see that the voice card page is really for the sliders, and yes I did read that the Sep release will address a lot of issues that people have brought up now. I think Sep is a nice timeframe. So far so good, I really like it

Post

It took me a while but then I remembered seeing Aly move one of those in the video. Like I said, I think it's a nice ease-of-use compromise.

Is the price of this reduced now in pre release? I'm sure I will buy it eventually but it's unlikely I'll use it that much until it's done and stable. Not sure if I should buy it now or wait.

Post

I don't think it's discounted currently but it is stable. After all, it's not a brand new product, it's v2 of an existing one. Still, I doubt waiting will cost you anything.

This reads like a lot of excuses for not having their act together while at the same time, asking for money. I’ve got plenty of plugins from small operations, but every single one of them had a demo for me to check out, and supplied a working serial number in under 24 hours. I’ve already got two very good OB-Xa emulations and two good SEM emulations (and one mediocre one). I bet this is true for a lot of people, so with that in mind, you have to at least as much as your competitors. You don’t show up late for a dinner party, show up empty handed and wonder why there’s not a plate of food ready for you.
