Would like to play with 5/4 time in the Step Sequencer module. Just wondering how to pull that off?

If i understand you correct you would want the Step Sequencer's "Steps/Beat" to be any number, eg 5, correct?

Yes, that would be great!

You can, of course, ignore "steps/beat". Just set the phrase length to 20 beats and you have four bars of five beats. "steps/beat" should mean that: steps per beat, not steps per bar - which is what the "5" in "5 / 4 time" means. Five quarter notes per bar.

That is true. Thanks for elucidating the topic and for the tip on setting the pattern length to 20 (this makes sense (I should have thought that math out a little more))!!
That said, I would like to see '5' - and other values - added to the "steps/beat" menu as that would allow one to more easily create poly & Euclidean rhythmic options.

Oh yes, not to say it shouldn't be there -- just that means something else :).

It has been implemented in M9.0.47: viewtopic.php?p=8498127#p8498127

Wow, that was fast! :o :hail: I guess I have to upgrade now. :D
Since we're on the subject of the Step Sequencer -- would it be possible to add a 'Panning' pane?
And, how about a 'Probability' pane?

Panning is an audio aspect. You could use the Step Sequencer to send CC events to automate the panning of eg. an Audio Mixer Strip.

Probability pane is not planned atm.
Maybe later as a separate module.
Or maybe there is a VST plugin that does that job?

Thinking loud: What about using a Wobble Generator to automate a Mod Group Velocity?
Would that simulate some kind of probability? Didn't check it, just an idea.

Hmmm, never thought of that. Just tried it out mapping a SS CC lane to the Stereo Panning of a Audio Mixer Strip but that doesn't work. However, mapping a CC lane to the Gain parameter does work. Perhaps there's a bug??

Can't think of a VST that would be able to integrate between the Step Sequencer and synth plugin to allow probability of step on/off. But, that doesn't mean there isn't one out there. Maybe some kind of Max module exists??

Hmmmm... so... while I can automate a Mod Group Velocity in the Compose View I don't see a way to tap a Wobble Generator module into the Step Sequencer (I'm still using v8).

There is a way to simulate probability by using the Note Dispatcher module in round robin mode and just add/remove as many unconnected outputs as required. Obviously you need at least one connected though.

Sorry I meant random mode not round robin

Interesting!! Thanks for that tip -- I'll try that out!
