But warming a digital VST synth up with a digital saturation plug-in seems weird.

Is it possible? How does it fare compared to analogue saturation or distortion hardware?
lots of things seem weird to many people. :)

Conventional for who? Turnips?

"Digital = cold" is one of the dumbest things about making music I've ever heard.

Best post in the whole thread, even if it's technically not true. :tu:

If you can't measure it with tools that are more sensible that the human ear, which is quite limited, then it is magic aka no evidence that it exists.

The digital ones or the warm ones?

Best for cold 'digital' synths might be to just put them into the Oven.

Yes, it's true that there are things that exist only as feelings or ideas. But physical phenomena exist independently of what is in one's head. If someone can consistently distinguish between two sound sources in a blind A/B test, they are discerning a physical phenomenon, which can be measured.

If you are arguing that no device exists that can make that measurement, that's one thing. If you're saying that it's impossible, you're just mystifying. It's a "God of the gaps" kind of argument at that point.

We should start talking about Shannon Nyquist Sampling Theorem now.

No.

It will be a warm turd. :D
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

Noise (saturation, distortion, etc,), instability (resembling pseudorandom modulation), compression, EQ (notably filtering). There is your “warmth”.

These are all available tools in the digital realm, not surprisingly.

Programing fluctuations & some instabilities in the first place does indeed help a lot. Yet, we should also talk about how to use non - linearities and bandwidth here.
