Rosetta 2 will probably be gone in the next year or so. If you're going to sell an 'Apple version' that only supports old machines, please make that information visible in a prominent place everywhere people buy your plugins.
People need to know what they're buying.

Then there is no point in Apple users buying your products as when Rosetta support ends which it will eventually, your current products will not work.xhunaudio wrote: Mon Sep 19, 2022 6:00 amThe payment methods ? ...![]()
My products are the result of my (passionate) work and they have a (fair, imho) price.
There have been no price charges (or changes) due to "Apple-compatibility" related things. Prices are related just to my work, as I said before (and we're talking about 9.90 USD for ModFlorus just to say one).
The point is that Apple is asking you to :
- obey their constantly changing rules
- pay them an annual fee
- register your personal data on their servers (and let them sell that data)
- constantly buy their hardware (M1, M2, ...)
- make a big smile at each notarization bug
This way, I can obtain the privilege of deploying for their platforms. So, I should feel lucky and happy to pay them while working in order to support and add value to their OSes and platforms.
In the passed decades, things have always been the opposite for computing / software development (and there is a reason for that).
This kind of "Far-West" behaviors are typical of the "interesting times" we're living and (at least for now) I prefer not to adhere this Great (Development) Reset.

Well, if you buy a new Apple computer, it doesn't mean you have to throw away your previous one (specially for music production purposes and for pro audio /studio scenarios).
Also, when a new upgrade for macOS is out, it doesn't mean you have to upgrade your OS...
...uhm, it's just my impression or someone just screamed "aargh you ungrateful, it's because Apple wants to defend us from security threats !"
All Xhun Audio softwares are native Intel macOS compatible. It means, if you have an Intel mac, all XA products will run fine on that, forever.
On Apple silicon, you have to use Rosetta 2 and (at today) all XA products run fine with that. In the future, if Apple would discard also Rosetta 2, it means Apple will prevent you to run your Intel-based softwares. So I think it would be the case to ask Apple about that, not private developers.
Anyway, it may be also possible for me to change my strategy further. For the moment, I feel comfortable with my decision - I think it is the right approach to take in this specific circumstance.

You seriously don’t get it. Not everyone has owned intel macs, some m1 owners have never used intel macs, and Apple Silicon is the future of all macs, so it does look like I won’t be buying anymore of your plugins, as they won’t work on my M1 Mac once Rosetta 2 support ends which will happen, so kiss goodbye to part of that market sector. Maybe you should be open to future buyers and list that you won’t support M1 macs in future.

I run Apple (unfortunately). Apple causes devs much pain with their OS updates and now hardware updates. If I was a dev I'd have to seriously consider spending the time and effort, and exposing my busienss to risk by trying to support the latest macPOS (P added on purpose). In many ways sticking with Intel compiles is a lot easier. Then, wait for more market penetration for Apple CPU's before putting that pain and effort into supporting them natively. Yes, it's pain for consumers. But, that's Apple for you.

Not a particularly HUGE presets library since it is a chorus / flanger processor - but at least a starting point, in many cases...

For a chorus/flanger it's plenty.

And even now, you don’t run just the plugin in Rosetta2. You have to run your entire DAW and all plugins in Rosetta2 to use a single non-native plugin. This robs you of 20% to 40% of your performance. No thank you.Goony wrote: Mon Sep 19, 2022 11:36 am Then there is no point in Apple users buying your products as when Rosetta support ends which it will eventually, your current products will not work.
Except that you’ve almost certainly traded in your old Mac to get your trade-in value (worth up to 1/3 off the new Mac) from Apple when you purchase.xhunaudio wrote: Mon Sep 19, 2022 12:50 pm Well, if you buy a new Apple computer, it doesn't mean you have to throw away your previous one (specially for music production purposes and for pro audio /studio scenarios).
And why did they spend thousands on a new Mac then if not to use it? You’re absolutely crazy if you think people are going to choose your chorus plugin over the performance of their new Apple Silicon Mac.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

Please stay calm and polite. You expressed your opinion, there's no reason to exaggerate.

It's strange how Microsoft is doing open source stuff and packing Linux with their OS now, while apple gets more restrictive and boneheaded. It's like the characters from those old "I'm a Mac. I'm a PC." commercials that made Macs popular again switched places.

Simply put, from both a Developer's and User's perspective, today there're just too many combinations of Platforms, Formats, ISAs and OSes to deal with for each single product to maintain and release.
Without being too much specific and not to open an endless discussion, a "simplification" is really needed or we're going back to the BBC Micro vs C64 vs ZX Spectrum vs etc... times when each system had its own separate softwares ecosystem.

Then you should mark your Xhun Audio plugins for Apple users as buyer beware..
