The only thing you know to do is to complain and suck your mom's tit.

Buuuuuuhuhuhuh

Uuuu company want's me to pay 80EUR or dollars...But I am a poor sucker. Booooo...

:hihi:
"Future-proof: All Bitwig Studio updates in the following 12 months are FREE."

My music sucks and I don't need this add-on, but I could buy it if I wanted to. Now that's out of the way, the problem isn't that it exists and can be bought or not, the problem is that the above statement, which is still on their website, no longer holds true. The Bitwig Upgrade plan is no longer future-proof, because some (i.e. not all) updates to Bitwig Studio are no longer free in the following 12 months after activating an upgrade license.

Complaining that an update didn't meet with your expectations, which is rife here and everywhere else on the internet is quite different from, the genuine concern from a company's sudden decision to change its business model. If you would take a minute to stop thinking about KVRers sucking on tits for a moment, you might be able to understand this rather significant distinction.

I demo'd the devices last night, I like them, but since there is no indication about what sort of tiered system I may or may not be locking myself into regarding future updates, I'm going to wait before committing.

And this is why you don't do drugs.
Seems pretty fun and I have a 79e sized hole burning in my pocket right now

Business models might have changed (again) but at least the communication from Bitwig is as good as always. Nice to see at least some kind of continuity.

Wow this turned out unpopular though not entirely unexpected, because the target customers are likely mostly hobbyists or those that are not earning all that much from audio/music, and therefore would be very careful what they spend on.

Also not unexpected because it's a messy move from bitwig. Seems confusing and also like they're confused, what appears logical to me is that either you'd have free updates for each version and version upgrades like most other DAWs and then are free to charge for add-ons, or the bitwig model which naturally implies (or has so far) that all additions in that year would be included. As it is now though it's predatory pricing for two competing products in their portfolio, and begs the question of their internal resources being diverted to one or the other. And it just comes across as confusing, like they're trying to have their cake and eat it too.

Judging by the reactions though there won't be a lot of it, and I'd be surprised if they don't work something out or change this.

I would say exact opposite. Hobbyists are buying a lot of things that they don't really need. Where real professionals are analyzing every purchase in terms of value and usage.

This add-on is not a product on itself. Will we get updates to the add-on if our subscription plan does not cover updates to Bitwig Studio? No? Why not? if there is a Update or bugfix to the add-on in 5.1.1 and my subscription plan ran out? - Will there be an add-on subscription plan?
They cannot even update the stuff without an update of BWS I guess. Maybe it is smarter to call them add-ons and not products (like Emagic did with exs, etc.) but it is the same nonsense situation. They are not independent and do not have their own life-cycle.
That is not the case with Steinberg's additional plugins (like HALion, etc.) This is also not the case with REs and player REs from Reason Studio - you can use the latest players with version from a couple of years ago and you can just install updates to them, even if you are running an older version of Reason.
I guess, this will never be possible with BWS add-ons.
Add-on do not have a service / life-cycle on their own, in the end, this is always a bad thing for customers.
Of course, we know, that other companies also might not always care about existing bugs in products, but in this case it is the core principal of this strategy.
One need to get an update for a different commercial entity, to get updates for an add-on.

At the very damn least, can they remove the "Some installed packages can be updated" nag. I'd like to have some chance of putting this behind me.

These must be those famous "machine gun" updates they were talking about a few years back. :-) SHOOTING DOWN loyal customers that is. :-)

!!! BE AWARE!!! This Add-On system seems to shift the focus more to getting new customers than keeping/serving existing customers. After you have payed the addon price (one-time-payment) you just bring in 149 dollar a year --> on the other hand a new customer will bring in almost 500 dollar! AND they still can advertise the "low" :-D yearly upgrade-price to the new customers. This software is just too expensive (for a Ableton clone) and the company seems too scamy for my taste. (These guys must have absolutly no character/originality, after "copying" the business idea and customers of their previous employer. They seem to tend to betray their peer (employer, customers,...)--> not a good sign!!!. Seems not very relyabel changing colors like a chameleon. Look what one does not what one is saying! --> especially with Bitwig this seems to be a good tip after watching them personally from day-one.)

This is just the beginning... we (you) will pay for much more Add-Ons in the future. Extra modulators? MSEG? Where will it end?

[for me: right here]

I was(!) a user since day one (I have a 1.0 Badge) but I changed to Reaper due to the last "marketing fopaux" from Bitwig a while back and due to some Bugs which weren´t adressed. When I look back at their history I just can´t trust them or the software anymore --> current situation is strenghten me in my past decisions even more!!! :-) It is getting worse and worse...

After working in Reaper for more than a year now I cannot change back to Bitwig --> after customizing Reaper it is just unbeatable in so many areas. And Melda Production fills out the missing parts (spectral stuff + even more and much better quality). BTW Reaper has native spectral editing features!!

I can recommend Reaper highly (after changing the mousewheel behaviour) for those who would like to stop being a consumer slave. :D

Thanks for getting in touch with us and sharing your feedback on the add-on concept. We take your concerns seriously and we appreciate your support for the program as well as your thoughts on the model.

We are very much committed to maintaining the same pace of updates as we did in the past, so the add-ons will not affect the quality, content or regularity of future updates.

Let us know if you have any questions or if we can help you in any other way.

Best regards,

I pay $130 a year cause I always buy at the same price. Since I sometimes wait to activate the new plan until there is a new paid release, it works out to just under $10 a month. Really not a big cost.

borez wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 8:42 am Instead I just feel like I want to dump this DAW and use Ableton ( I already use both ) exclusively instead. They've just become another Adobe overnight here, the US and THEM mentality i.e. they do something, we get pissed off, they don't ever listen. This will no doubt continue to get worse.
C'mon - you are jumping to a huge conclusion here...

Yhey are no Adobe locking in an entire industry and buying up all the competition. They are just a small company trying to make good music software - and doing a great job if you ask me.

They have always replied to my emails to them. They are almost certainly lovely people active in their music tech community (i.e. supporting CLAP).

Give them a chance ffs.
