For me its simply this.
The bonus is that you get this at all as an option compared to other DAWs.

The alternative is you pay only for what is released, and this results in much slower release cycles - with no intermediate releases.

I didn't say anyone was not paying.

please change your name from btiwig to paywig

I dont think anybody wants them to burn down. They want them to reverse this decision or at the very least acknowledge and discuss.

I think the mass outrage is partly because they love the software but the trust has gone since active plans have had their terms and conditions broken

I'm just curious, can you resell addons or are they linked to the main account once and for all, anybody ?

This video popped up on my YouTube feed last night. I think the guy (who obviously loves Bitwig) nails the whole situation perfectly in a calm and logical manner.

If you're short on time you can jump to the 7:25 mark forward to get to his salient point.

Previously haven't new features been released as betas etc so does this mean even more testing etc has been performed than normal ? Will this be a new trend for 4.4 etc ?
No - it was buggy and caused crashes - they just released 4.3.10 today.
Maybe now 4.3.10 is out they have time to reply to the many disgruntled people who help pay their bills. Wishful thinking maybe
if the responses i've seen posted elsewhere is accurate, they basically are responing with the faq text. Yes we hear your concerns and then the same message as in the faq, that is, there will be signifcant uppgrades.. and add ons too

To add insult to injury, because I have an active plan I have to pay over twice as much as someone who didn't have an active plan and buys one now. Surely the cost should have been the same to anyone with an active plan. It is a cynical, calculated cash grab designed specifically to exploit existing customers in my opinion.
Definitely they misjudged and communicated poorly. Hope they work out a solution.

Whats this bit about having to pay over twice as much as someone who didn't have an active plan and buys one now? What did I miss. (asked as an active plan holder :hihi:)

"Sound package update dialog is now only shown for licensed content"

Is it that hard to keep your promises and be supportive of the people who pay for your work even in difficult times like these?
You're implying some kind of bad faith.

I'm assuming the best of them, and just that they misjudged and miscommunicated.
You're implying bad faith on the customer's side. All they ask is to get what they paid for. I'm assuming the best on the customers side, and that they only want to know where they stand and what they can expect for the money they've given Bitwig in good faith.

I think you must be struggling for worthy conversation points and have resorted to scurrilous rumour mongering.

Congrats on your negative contribution.
Yeah OK.

Ive not double checked the costs but apparently its costs twice as much to buy the add on if you already have an active update plan than if you were to buy an update plan

Why would I care about arbitrary release cycles? Ableton releases updates to Live in between major releases. Cuckos updates Reaper between major releases. Whether the bugs are fixed quickly or not is missing the point. The point is that they changed the arrangement/agreement (or whatever you want to call it) AFTER taking the money.

I'm not one of the people here out with a pitchfork, mad as hell at BW. Its not me or how I am. I like the product they put out. However I won't be paying it forward anymore. I will purchase AFTER I see what improvements have been made. This wasn't the case before. They sold a "Subscription". I will ignore that term in the future (since they and I, and some others, see that term differently) and make the purchase just like I do with Live and Reaper. When I see enough improvements to part with the my money I will buy it. No more upfront cash where the seller gets to change the terms of service after taking my money.

Oh, right.

I don't think I really mind them offering small sweeteners to encourage people that have not updated to update.

The upgrade plans also go on sale from time to time, so they offer sweeteners to most people at some point.

You can also buy an upgrade plan on sale - and hold it until you want to activate the 12 month of updates.

All sounds pretty reasonable to me.
