I think nothing much will happen and it will fade out relatively quickly. Bitwig will announce the beta of 4.4/5.0 pretty soon and it will be a solid and interesting update and many users will be satisfied that they will keep receiving the sort of updates they have come to expect on their annual plans. And hopefully, if Bitwig wants to make some change again in the future they wont make such a mess next time.h2ogun99 wrote: Mon Oct 10, 2022 12:32 am
I'm now hoping that Bitwig stays quiet as a social experiment to see exactly what will really happen in the days/weeks/months to come. That will be far more interesting than all that amazing music that I'm sure will be created with the help of the spectral plugins.

I’m not complaining at all. Definitely making fun of, but if this goes on for a 100 more pages it wouldn’t bother me in the slightestperpetual3 wrote: Mon Oct 10, 2022 12:39 am And you’re complaining about him complaining about them complaining….

All a bit childish and dehumanising tbh.

I think we’re seeing how bizarrely die hard certain Bitwig fans are, lol!
Not really fans, more like disciple’s!
Hmmm
, I wonder if there’s any correlation in that?
I mean I love the DAW, not the shitty unethical business model.

I don't think they're fans. I think they're employees or relatives of employees or something along those lines. They show up periodically and for the most part don't address peoples' arguments, just toss some ad hominem attacks around and then duck out for a while.simmo75 wrote: Mon Oct 10, 2022 1:34 am I think we’re seeing how bizarrely die hard certain Bitwig fans are, lol!

From what I can tell, we're an angry mob of sock puppets who don't actually use Bitwig, trying to make the company crash and burn.
Even though no one has said that or expressed any such thing. We all just want Bitwig to honor the terms of the upgrade plan. We've talked about the EULA, we've talked about the principles involved, the ethics, possible legal ramifications. We 've discussed what recourse we as individuals might take to make our displeasure known to Bitwig with more than just words. It has been, by and large, quite interesting, thoughtful, and fairly productive. I've enjoyed reading everyone's perspective, and I think it's important to keep this discussion going.
So thanks everyone, well done, keep it up.

Said it before, and I’ll say it again. I love the DAW and what I can do with it more than this poorly communicated and mismanaged policy shift. If that ethical aspects of the business practice matter more, then by all means stop using the DAW. And if another DAW comes around which I prefer more than Bitwig, I won’t hesitate to go to that DAW. Because I don’t view myself as having a relationship with Bitwig as a company. I view myself as using Bitwig as a tool, as an instrument for me to create my music. If a better tool comes around, I’ll use that. Right now, Bitwig does it better than all the rest for me.

Some people boycott Nestle, they might like the chocolate, but the companies unethical policies make buying it impossible to bear. More succinctly do not conflate outrage with a personal relationship. You have a business relationship, you pay them for a product, and when a business does something shady and I have any choice about it at all, I stop doing business with that company until they change that policy. This is not about "relationships", those of us that can and will leave if nothing is done are not married to the DAW.perpetual3 wrote: Mon Oct 10, 2022 1:55 am Said it before, and I’ll say it again. Let's say they had changed thier EULA etc in advance, made an announcement and generally made this change properly. Do people see SS as "highly specialized device" or more of a "core feature"?

a core feature people paid for through their upgrade plans.
Highly specialized and core arent mutually exclusive, and neither of them justifies breaking EULA and dishonestly changing product descriptions after people have paid for it years and years.
Either way, it's something people paid for with upgrade plans and was promised by Bitwig to be paid for. Bitwig can decide if they want to make a highly specialized 1-knob module or a 20-knob synth, but what they cannot justifiably do is to change the terms however they like (especially AFTER the fact that people have paid for Bitwig and upgrade plans) and start charging for something they've promised to be included within Bitwig purchases and upgrade plans.

It's Bitwig, so there is a small or vague difference between core and special. Spectral Suite in Pro Tools or Cubase would be highly specialized. But to my knowledge, Bitwig is more than just a simple DAW, it's also a modular sound manipulation environment.lokio wrote: Mon Oct 10, 2022 3:00 am Let's say they had changed thier EULA etc in advance, made an announcement and generally made this change properly. I remember we had similar useless discussions when Bitwig went to 2.0. If the spectral suite would be part of the next update, a lot of people would complain that they are not interested in it and BW should concentrate on workflow and basic functions of the DAW. We simply don’t know what 4.4/5.0 will give us. They might lower the price for the updates and want to compensate with add-ons or whatever. All this is pure speculation.
The only flaw I see, is the communication between the company and the community. (Da ist noch Luft nach oben…)
