It may be that they didn't make a statement yet for this reason, and didn't want to repeat the mistake of doing something admittedly half-assed (though now it seems they will be making one tomorrow, possibly because of the blowback). Hell it could even have been 5.0 and for all you know could turn out to be a stellar update. So, assuming that something along these lines does happen will all the ppl "threatening" to change their criteria for when/if they buy updates or even abandon bitwig or switch daws still stick to their crusade? Or are they going to declare some sort of tenuous victory? Just curious how all the folks are going to react if there is some positive news, since they've been acting like hell froze over.
That would be awesome. Excited to see what they say tomorrow.

They're a reseller. People have been asking them for refunds.

That was their email response to me after I made a complaint about the situation. PluginBoutique is the reseller I purchased the Bitwig update plan from.

Given that thus far they have shown no indication that they feel they have done anything 'wrong' I wouldn't get too excited at all :D

I simply want what I paid for, which is all upgrades for a year.

If their statement honours that I'll be happy. If it doesn't I won't.

I think original post was just another veiled "complaining about complainers" post. Another grumpy ol' neighbor who isn't interested in the topic

Yeah, I'm looking forward to hearing something. But let's just take it as it comes!

By "thrive" I assume you mean, starve and quit.

This thread is 90 pages of children complaining that chocolate is too expensive.
This looks remarkably like a troll at work......................
No, he just said moving to some free/open source paradigm that Blender has - is not a move that would work. There is no reason to think that it would. It a completely different thing than Blender. to even suggest this is pretty naive.

The developers need to make a living. I'd rather they do that making Bitwig that going off and getting more boring higher paid jobs elsewhere.

It's a shame so many people are basically wanting Bitwig to fail over this. It's amazing really, in a very disappointing negative, burn it down, view of the world.

Positively. I am 100% OK with Bitwig talking about loss of revenue and price hikes, but I think they need to rethink this rethinking of the Update Plan and what that means and how to get more revenue rolling in. Hopefully their thoughts are in line with mine, if not I move on.

I maybe pathologically like supporting the small guys who do good work and are straight shooters, it's not about cost or even all about feature set. Realistically I get more or less the same "sound" out of any DAW I use, some like Bitwig are more fun to work in than others. I prefer DP over Logic and Cubase, and Bitwig over Ableton or FL for much the same reasons. The biggest difference is as of now anyway Ableton has never pulled anything like this, they introduced a batch of AAS instruments as part of their Suite and made two tiers for Live. They screwed up Max integration for a while, but that's pretty solid now.

Of course it's not all about supporting the "little" guys, DP does many things better than Logic or Cubase, and Bitwigs MPE and modulation are far better than Lives. Anyway I'm totally open to whatever they have to say, and honestly I have high hopes because I'm sure at some point they've had conversations with other developers about this, like Urs from U-He, who does things vastly differently than this, and the guy from PluginAllience reaching out etc. Two different approaches to marketing etc.

The update plan is fine. If anything it is better than the alternative a paid upgrade that will include point update - as if you buy - or even active - mid cycle - you get a whole years updates, which could include a major version.

They have botched the spectral plugs announcement though - as they didn't properly consider existing upgrade plans.

The good news is that if they don't feel they need this as a point update - then they must have a decent amount of good things in the pipeline.

And you are corrrect - Bitwig IS more fun to work in than other DAWs.

I don't see hardly anyone wanting Bitwig to fail, I see people wanting to let Bitwig know (in the only way that companies respond, financially) , that they are not going to go along with this move.

Imagine for a minute being this poster. You bought Bitwig after seeing them hand every embedded plug in they made into Bitwigs Update Plan, you're, not going to take this lightly. It's got to feel like a swindle, no matter how it's sold.

I don't know that anyone wants them to fail, although I would say the way they have been all the way through, if they can't think of a way to swing it round they would deserve to.
Like many others, I was very impressed with the way they were going until this and their behaviour has now been so needlessly shady, it's hard to see positives in it because they've destroyed the rather large amounts of goodwill and trust people held for them, so they are bound to take it personally.

I'm so glad I don't have to please anybody...
