Pigments 3.5 vs Dune 3.5

Pigments is a piece of crap if you compare the sound it has against the sweetness of Dune's sound, unparalleled. Pigments sounds cold and digital, Dune sounds fat, creamy and analog, however Dune lacks other syntheses to be considered and accepted massively, it should have an exclusive drum kit module and some more generic sounds like guitars, pianos, brasses and choirs.

How does something sound "creamy"?Chipi wrote: Tue Oct 25, 2022 7:41 pm Pigments is a piece of crap if you compare the sound it has against the sweetness of Dune's sound, unparalleled. Small remark (apart from the "piece of crap" nonsense): Dune should not have an exclusive drum kit and those generic soundsChipi wrote: Tue Oct 25, 2022 7:41 pm Pigments is a piece of crap if you compare the sound it has against the sweetness of Dune's sound, unparalleled. Think of the sound a dollop makes when you flick it onto a bowl of strawberries. I do agree 100% with the sentiment he was trying to express. Sound has to come first and DUNE will never lose on that front.

The only objective reason why I prefer Dune over Pigments is CPU Efficiency. Pigments is one of the most CPU consuming synth and Dune is the least CPU consuming synth. Dune is lighter than Sylenth1. For confirmation, just create and compare a patch on both synths.

But is Dune creamy as Pigments or Sylenth1 that is the questiona9k1tp wrote: Wed Oct 26, 2022 11:49 am The only objective reason why I prefer Dune over Pigments is CPU Efficiency. Pigments has a few filter types to cater for sonic needs other than clean digital. Not sure about strawberries though.
Arturia seem to keep adding new fx too, so the sonic range is pretty good now. It's quite a complex beast at this point.

I generally ignore layers for the most part, and then you do end up with a synth that can quickly make a simple sound in 30 seconds.Propellerhands wrote: Fri Sep 16, 2022 8:05 pm Now the GUI is well, it is not as bad as some people make it to be. This window in the center is annoying, but functional. But browsing all 8 scenes while making a sound can be time consuming, so Dune 3 definitely is not one of those "quickly make a bass/pad in 30 seconds" type of synths. That's why I wouldn't buy even if it was on sale, though the price is ok.
I think I downloaded the demo from their Service Center app and I don’t remember having to provide information beyond logging in.As for Pigments, meh. I can't even download a demo from my own account inside Arturia's website. I have to enter name, email etc. Don't they already have such information? I hate such annoying business practices. Screw them.

You are right, I was wrong, now I see it being there. For those who already have a Arturia Service Center it is pretty convenient, must admit. For those who don't.. well.zerocrossing wrote: Wed Oct 26, 2022 2:08 pm

Both have their own tricks and peculiarities but basically:
Dune sounds great but has terrible GUI.
Pigments sound meh but has a great GUI.
No surprise that Pigments is more popular.
