I forgot. Did someone mention somewhere that all previously-released commercial Zebra sound sets sold by u-he would be included with Zebra Legacy or something when Z3 is released? Or did I completely make that up?

Not at the time Zebra3 is released, but much sooner.
See the first post of this very thread.
Or read the news item on our website:

Urs, thanks again for being so transparent, helpful, and respectful to U-He customers (which I've been since 2010).

Many years ago, when I was starting with Zebra, I sent you an email regarding some dumb noise and how to replicate it and you took the time to answer to me. You made a loyal customer for life.

I hope I'm not being too inquisitive but could share the broad strokes of the improvements to Zebra 3?

We all know about the big effort into the new oscillators but are there other QOL improvements we can expect? Maybe a new sequencer or even multiple sequencers like Avenger has? Or maybe making it multitimbral like you teased in this thread of mine so long ago?

I did understand that multitimbrality is a great feature, if you have a hardware synth and a single Midi cable and a computer with a Midi sequencer (think Atari). But what is the benefit of multitimbrality in a DAW nowadays? Especially as it would conflict with the way more important MPE…
Is it just to keep workflows from ancient times? For layering sounds I can use whatever my DAW will allow, in that case I can even mix multiple different instruments. Of course layers within a synth might be feasible as well, but multitimbral??? My DAW is multitimbral, that is why a synth doesn’t need to be…
Help me to understand it…

Of course a lot can be solved right in the DAW. Does that mean synths shouldn't have effects either? Or layers? At which point do you draw the line?

Having some kind of layer functionality, each with its own sequencer, opens up to huge possibilities for creating and distributing complex presets. You can see that in synths like Rapid, Avenger, or Omnisphere.

I think soundpacks are extremely important for the success of any synth because there are lots of preset surfers out there. Nothing wrong with that. The majority of synth users probably do not make presets from scratch. I mean look at Omnisphere. It's not a very good sounding synth but it survives because of the vast amount of third party libraries and of course the huge factory library. I think it's the same for Zebra. People keep making libraries for it (me included) and keep it alive even though it's such an old product.

Yes, in general I don’t need fx in the synth unless its per voice…

That does make sense, also that factory sounds often are drenched in reverb is for selling it, though its not very useful.
If I come across somehow interesting sounds in factory or 3rd party collections, the first thing I have to do is get rid of reverb and vibratos/tremolos…
Layers do not bother me, some sounds need to be combined out different elements…
I ignore usually all ARP and SEQ presets, its other peoples music not mine, its not part of a sound, its more composition of the shelf - or canned music. If you sell that, of course you need it…
Thanks for the explanation!

Proud new owner of a Zebra. There's still room for two more in the stable.

I have the greatest idea: We need a Zebra Legacy countdown webpage, also showing seconds!

Post

We can’t have a countdown when we don’t know a date, unless I’m missing something.

Post

Well, we do know the date... but we don't do countdowns

We have a date? Im signed up to the newsletter but not received anything :0

Urs and his gang have it, but it's not yet public, I think.

Tuesday we'll send a newsletter with the date. I can't put it out now as I'm not sure if everyone we want to alert beforehand has been alerted already, e.g. resellers.

Post

Im guessing there’ll be no Black Friday deal then..

Been demoing dune 3.5 but all this news has certainly swayed me
