The Dark Zebra Zebra Legacy (Zebra2)

Post

Our most ambitious goal was always the unification of Zebra’s visual curve editors instead of the 6 different editors for oscillator “Geo” curves, “Blend” waveforms, MSEG curves, ModMapper steps, LFO steps and Key/Velocity scalings.

Why synth developers include ADSR and LFO modulators when they already have MSEGs which can be used to do both.

I see a future without ADSR and LFOs. Just MSEGs, because it can do both.

Post

Well, the Z3 LFOs that I have nearly finished can do some different things.

I'm also tending towards more simple ADSR where each stage can be controlled more dynamically in order to have something that's fast as well as something that's easily bent, where MSEGs would be more work to set up things.

Post

Thanks for the Legacy switch. Zebra2HZ is even more amazing. I think you should outline on your Zebra Legacy webpage more clearly that ZebraHZ also is included and also adds quite interesting features e.g. "the diva filters". Currently you do not seem to tease ZebraHZ features at all.

Isn't it true that ZebraHZ also should load any Zebra2 preset 1:1, so if you newly use Zebra, there should no need at all anymore to use Zebra2 vst? I think the ZebraHZ original skin even is a bit better than the new Zebra2 skin and adds a bit more of usability... IMO you should screenshot that. The current subpage is very rudimentary...

Also I really wonder why you still do not enable the 60Hz on macos by default... Kind of reduces the UI experience. I guess due very conservative backwards compatibility reasons?

Post

Also I have a question: How are the compressors 1-4 connected in the signal flow? Those seem to be different than the insert fx compressors... Also the documentation do not seem to give hints here, or maybe I am missing that section.

Post

I think that Zebra2 is closer to my vision of a great synth than ZebraHZ. I think ZebraHZ requires extra effort & skills - it is purposed for very demanding tasks beyond Zebra's original scope. Whenever Zebra2 gets the job done, I'd choose Zebra2 over ZebraHZ.

They inserted behind the VCA per voice, before mixing the 4 lanes into the master/bus channels.

"Here's the catch: Everyone who obtains a license for Zebra2 by buying Zebra Legacy on or after November 15th for only 99€ will not have such an upgrade path. That's simply because it's such a bargain already."

I hope you rethink this and offer an upgrade path for less money for those customers, like me, I bought Zebra Legacy earlier today, but it's absurd if you expect your customers to cough up the full amount to get v3, especially if it's just round the corner and when you offer the v2 licence holders the upgrade for 30 euros!
You also had Diva on sale last year, so when Diva 2 comes out, will those people miss out too because they got it at a low price? I only bought Zebra Legacy as it was on offer, but with the thought of upgrading once v3 comes out at a decent cost!

Please rethink it, don't let greed push more potential customers away!

Its not an offer, its a permenent price. Its your own fault for not reading or expecting something that is not said. Everything is clearly written.

Yess, exactly this, XY assignments, tagging, volume balancing, preset sorting, creation of NKS versions and NKS previews, ....

The whole process of polishing the presets is still ongoing, as this is an enormous task. So not all presets already underwent the polishing process. We'll publish an update in a few months once that's done for all the presets.

The soundsets are installed into a Legacy folder, so installing them won't overwrite your existing versions.
But if I remove the old non-tagged packs and use the new packs included with Legacy, will my old projects open with correct sounds?

Yes, DAWs save the preset within the project file.

Unless of course you use MIDI Program Changes, in case of which you should leave your MIDI Programs folder untouched.

the information has been available for ages now. there's been emails and posts on multiple forums and social media accounts. the offer for zebra legacy is very generous. it's your fault for falling through the cracks and not seeing the details which were clearly stated.

zebra legacy and zebra 3 are to be separate products. save your sour grapes. you got a huge discount on zebra 2 + all the sound packs and the dark zebra. count it as a win. you have so much to explore already.

I nabbed the full price Zebra 2 shortly before the cut off. Not cheap, almost as much as my DAW. But the sheer range of products included is mental, even for 200 euros nevermind 99. Looking forward to seeing more progress on Zebra 3, and that cheap upgrade in a couple years. Cheers!

Is this your product? Your company? No, so shush! It was aimed at U-HE, not you! Giving me nonsense about this and that!
I only saw the article on KVR's main page about the special offer, didn't go on to read the history, I didn't get any emails, hardly ever on the forum and not seen any social media posts about it etc, a new customer. You see special offers from time to time, should one have to go through and read all the small print and historical background!? I think not!

It's also not specified on the u-He product page, checked just now, perhaps that should be there to make it clear to new potential customers. It's the first time I've heard of this nonsense that getting a product, an upgrade path is not possible, understandable if it's an education copy, but not a full copy.
I only came across this page because of the Favourites labelling feature request.
