Does this matter? Zebra 2 will still be around and maintained for the foreseeable future, so you won't lose anything you already have :?

No showstopper, just curious

Presets are sometimes very good starting point to tweak and maybe create some.
And it will certainly very desirable to use Zebra 3 exclusively, unless it is not as good as Zebra 2, which I doubt.
Having at least some sort of "bridge" to open - even unperfectly - Z2 presets in Z3 would really make sense imho.

In the wishlist for Zebra3 (and all other plugins btw, maybe already asked) : display the values as real units (Hz, s etc.). It makes sense since some real vintage synth knobs show the real value on the panel.

Would a Yamaha SY99 read patches of a SY 77?
For me Zebra3 will be a completely different beast, why should it emulate other gear?

from what ive read, rather than being an updated version of zebra 2, it's more of a new synth, using some of the modular concept, but little of the core sound engine.

i could be wrong though?

Not wrong at all.

Well, Excel 2022 is able to open an old excel 97 xls file. Not perfectly, OK
But if Z3 could at least place its existing modules in a Z3 instance, opening a Z2 patch, it could help a lot.
It's like when Cubase or Reaper open a project in a computer where you don't have a given plugin : it makes an empty slot where it says "plugin missing", but at least, gives you the track's midi notes.

why? just learn the new synth and when you want a sound from Zebra 2 instantiate Zebra 2. if you know how to use Zebra2 chances are you'll get on well with Zebra3 and make new discoveries along the way

Some modules won't have exact equivalents. E.g. all filters will get audio rate modulation, so no need for dedicated XMF modules.

this would be more like opening a cubase project in reaper.
where only stock plug ins and presets were used and without saving the midi separate.

best example i can think of :)

and of course, zebra3 will come with its own awesome presets, many by the same folk as 2.
and im sure they will recreate some of their signature sounds with the new modules.

Yeah it would be nice and I personally would love to load Z2 preset in Z3 but I think many people really have this thought because it's code-named "Zebra 3" from what I read so far, it's not really exactly a 100% successor of Zebra 2 but more of a new synth built around the concept of Zebra 2

I think it's not too late to switch the name to Okapi

wtf is an okapi? :hihi:

Maybe we should stop calling it Zebra 3 to make it more obvious that it's a totally different product (not like Excel 97 vs Excel 2022 to be clear)?

Even Okapi would work well for that actually 8)
