He needs to take it up with the current resident of 10 Downing Street. Whoever that is today.
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

Price should include the VAT already. At least this way it was on my purchase. But maybe they use fixed pricing for specific regions as many developers do, like 1 price for US ($), 1 for EU (€) and 1 for UK with GBP, instead of simply one price which gets calculated on the base price towards your country`s currency?

I hope Vanguard 2 is successful for ReFX, as they were originally known for their synths like Plasticz, Beast and Slayer.
Vanguard1 (as well as PlastiCZ, Slayer, JunoX) was a collaboration between me and Michael Kleps (now Hartmann). We were both small indy-developers and shared the income. For Vanguard1 I did create the concept, the prototype, code the waveforms/wavetables/oscillators, the audio-engine (except arpeggiator & reverb) and one of the factory banks. Mike did the GUI, some preformance optimisations, the arpeggiator, the marketing and the website.
Mike licensed my old sourcecodes for the use in Vanguard2.
For PlastiCZ I did create the concept, the audio engine and the factory patches.
For Slayer I also did create the concept, the audio engine (except the reverb) and the factory patches.

If things run smoothly with Vanguard2 I'll give Mike a go for Slayer and PlastiCZ if he should ask me.

You can do the phase distortion of PlastiCZ also with Tone2 Nemesis or Icarus2. To initialize a phase distortion patch in Icarus2 pick the Templates->"Phase Distortion CZ" patch.

Somewhere fair in price, at least compared to the V1 version, modern, GUI, browser etc ... and of course all Vanguard sound banks.

Even if Vanguard sounds very digital and felt "retro" from a VST point of view due to its DNA - because it's just modernized in the basic structure instead of massive sound updates - I don't know. Very light on a CPU basis - but just in terms of sound - if you have the choice between wavetable monsters like Hive, Serum and especially Pigments - I think Vanguard will be only something for refx fans or nostalgics.

At the same time, one has to say that it is somehow understandable that Refx with Vanguard V2 is not releasing a completely new synthesizer that can compete with the top dogs ala Pigments & Co.

It kind of confuses me as a synth - the sound of the Vanguard compared to Pigments, Hive etc - feels weird, this big contrast in the current times. A synth from 2005 lands back in 2022... hmmm
It is the new cutting edge ! Maybe... ? I am interested but have not jumped on it quite yet. I am not entirely sure I can get value from its Black Friday asking price. I think I will feel like yourself. It has a few hardcore limitations by 2022 standards, however.. I am personally going down a bit of a vintage production stage and this synth could fit right in. I suppose Synthwave kicked this off.. I suspect in most genres of EDM there is a vintage thing possibly happening.. well it is for me anyway, that could be for a number of reasons..

I don't see it as much different than Predator as that always sounds dated and retro but in a good way which I did a few Youtube Albino sounds on recently. They cover similar ground.

If it was £60.00 including tax I would have jumped straight on it. £80.00 is making me a bit more indecisive (that will be the same for possibly 100's of people) Ok, on one hand the extra £20.00 will not break the bank but it shifts the mind to comparisons of what you can get for £80.00 - I am not a preset user so it could have 10 billion presets and make no difference.

As a synthesist it is going to be a lot of fun fitting into its limitations and probably a little frustrating but I like the punchy Sylenth1-esque sound. I will buy when it feels right for me, as will everyone else.

If you plan on making your next 10 tracks vintage it seems like good value. If you are planning on one or 2 a bit less so. If you use a lot of standard sounds and Vanguard2 makes them well it can end up in a lot of tracks, if it sounds better than modern offerings and it might for some sounds, often as synths do. Predator was adorable on my last track, nothing else quite did the job it did and I tried a few synths.

reFx should definitely have had a switch for the reverb algos. The original should have been kept in there for full authenticity. Dated reverb can be just what you need. Same goes for the original skin, pretty important. When we wish to escape the world on a wet Saturday afternoon, we sometimes may wish to be fully immersed back in yesteryear.

I'm really interested in the synth. I don't have anything against sounding digital, as long as it's a good digital sound. ;) The lack of a demo makes this a pig in a poke thing though. I won't spend 79 € not knowing what I buy.

Although not owning the first vanguard I used it extensively at my friend's studio so version 2 piqued my interest. Lack of a demo is a big hindrance though and I am not sure if looking back with rose tinted glasses means i would be as impressed now I have spire, Pigments, serum etc as I was back then.

OG vanguard and a nord lead were my favourite things to use but this was 20yrs ago. Guess I can check out you tube vids but a demo would have been great.

I wonder if there will be a demo
