I put 2 songs in my music website, but I think the song on top ("Turn It Around") would interest you the most because it has Hive 2, ZebraHZ, and a bunch of Presswerk compression. Please tell me how you like the song, and how it can be improved, and I will return the favor. Here is my link:

Lot's to like in this song, a very nice intro with a strong synth-bass setting up the drummer, who keeps things fundamental for the next parts. The occasional crash cymbals are sweet.

I like the string-screech of the guitar changes, reality wins vs pro-tools

At the vocal change at 53 seconds, theres nice but subtle bass or synth (or both) harmonies
that could be enjoyed more if louder, and still not compete with the vocal range.

I recognized after a few listens that the synth riser might be mimicking the racing sound, a nice touch. That racing portion reminds me of my wife testing how fast her Kawasaki was, and when reaching 100+ mph in very short order, was besieged by survival instincts, and throttled down, much like that part of your song.

The guitar parts are great fun, bringing them in with the revving sound is a nice tease, then going to unique places, but still within the songs earshot, and the high frequencies have great clarity without being 'clean' (Any gear/settings tips for the poor? )

(also, very cool vocals and retro vibes in Bat Attack 2 8)

Here's some hopefully peaceful low-volume background music, with a pulse from Hive 2...could 'rythmic ramen' become a new genre?

glokraw,
Thank you for listening to "Turn It Around" and "Bat Attack 2", and reviewing both songs, I appreciate it! I don't have a huge amount of advice on distortion and EQ. It seems some people I've met on the internet will spend a dozen, or dozens of hours of time EQ'ing a single song, and I don't have that much patience. For guitar, I use Line 6 Helix Native for guitar amp modeling and effects on my newer songs. Presswerk settings can affect the clarity versus distortion thing (I believe there is a Warmth setting), as can panning things in general. Now reviewing: "A Visionary Heart": this song is quite relaxing and pleasant! Nice audio quality!

Thanks for the note about Helix. I had a demo when it was released, and it's often a favorite in both software and hardware. I have an older Spider amp, that still gets used for a variety
of amp situations. I'll admit to not having studied the art and science of compression, (what, plugins got knees now? :? ) but have likely used it by accident in various presets. It seems to work great in your music, as a unifying agent. I think U-he have most of an amp-sim in the parts bin, maybe after Zebra 3 is released, there will be hope for that.

A modular amp-sim? :hyper: "Gui-zille" is still available as a name.

Glad you like my tune, another one may be out by friday, with Zebra Legacy/Hive,
gifts that keep on giving

Some holiday music from Zebra 2 and Hive 2

Hive provides the underlying pads in this, and some sequence parts, my imaginings of the space traveler/planetary explorer 'Ransom' on his way home to the blue skys of Earth, after surviving on the planet Perelandra, in the C.S. Lewis 'Space Trilogy' (links to the three books via Project Gutenberg are below)

Podolski was the star of this show (yeah, yeah, liberal use of the term 'star'. Maybe 'pet' would be a better descriptor.) Anyway, it was fun to play. And it helps keep the neighbors cat out of the studio. I hate claw marks on the ceiling :x

Happy 2023  :hyper:
If it's New Years day afternoon, and you're trying to cook your way past a hangover,
here's some Hive background music that might help. I haven't had a drop of whiskey
since I started using U-he synths :hihi:

A new MW2 inspired track I recently put out, the distorted kick is from Zebra and the woozy bass is from Hive!!

So I close my eyes, and imagine the movie scene(s) for which this could be applied.

I'm getting mechanical warriors patrolling with 'threat scanners', and then using threat extermination weaponry, at night, in a city devastated by violence, or perhaps in large underdround areas of the same. The quieter parts being the use of scanning gear, the raucus parts being the ensuing confrontations. The 'risers' could be launched missile type weapons. I noticed your graphic
after the fact, very appropriate!

Cheers

Thank you!! More than anything I always want to nail the tone and vibe of what I’m tasked with, that’s the ultimate goal of a media composer, so I take that as a big compliment cause that’s exactly what I was going for!!

This time I looked at the song waveform before listening, to visualize the song structure.
(I would have flunked visualization 101 in this case! ) I enjoyed the synth/vocal intro, with it's several mood/chord changes. Has a very classic pop-rock feel. I think it would be cool to use melodized versions of that raw vocal, as an intro and outro to each of the main vocal parts, overlapping the transitions a bit, a few hooks to help unify the punchy bass and the guitars and tie the song together from the beginning. A diving 'down' vocal interlude with the instruments at the end might be fun?

Nice to hear songs that aren't cookie-cutter shaped using store-bought cookie dough.

I really enjoy the middle eastern feel of the second song, with the volume swells and vocal blends working well to invoke the sometimes harsh landscapes and mysteries there. Makes a nice buildup to the power chords and verses. I think I'd add a little delay/reverb on the snare in the second half where it joins the bass, and then to the end. It popped out a little dry as a first and second impression. As opposed to your atmospheric rivers! Hope your gear and cars and homes and toes are all staying dry. :scared:
Very cool songs!
