Exactly. But yes, I'm fully aware that the whole point of Zebra 3 is to not needing to be 100% backward compatible.robisme wrote: Sun Dec 25, 2022 5:22 pm Yes, but it could have been fun to be able to import them anyway, as some kind of random starting point, given they won't fully load, but certainly place modules here and there, mseg and whatsoever. Ready to tweak.

I’m glad patches won’t be backward compatible, that shows that Zebra 3 is going to make a significant leap in terms of what it can do, I’m excited

Maybe I shouldn't have been mentioned it as it was misunderstood by asking for backward compatible.
My question is really: If I get new to the u-he ecosystem by buying Zebra 3, can I somehow also get a backward path to Zebra 2, be it e.g. by getting Zebra 2 discounted?

I guess you can't expect a discount on something that already has such a high value to price ratio ...

It was mentioned numerous timea that there wount be discounts for new legacy users.Fannon wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 7:06 am Maybe I shouldn't have been mentioned it as it was misunderstood by asking for backward compatible.

That was not the question I asked, though. That if you buy Zebra Legacy, you won't get an upgrade path is very clear - and clearly communicated.Lbdunequest wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 8:55 amIt was mentioned numerous timea that there wount be discounts for new legacy users.Fannon wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 7:06 am Maybe I shouldn't have been mentioned it as it was misunderstood by asking for backward compatible.

If someone doesn't get an upgrade path to Zebra3 if he/she purchases Zebra Legacy, why do you think that someone who purchases Zebra3 (once it is released) should get a downgrade path to Zebra Legacy?
Wouldn't it be only logical to treat both cases the same way?

That's the question, yes. But if you buy a used Zebra 2 (not legacy) license today, you do get both for clearly less money.

i can't think of any product, where you buy a later version, and get the previous versions free.

On the whole, buying one u-he product does not give you a discount towards another one and the few bundles don’t themselves get discounted. Urs has also talked about wanting to protect the resale value of his products. So I’d be surprised if there is anything other than the occasional set piece sale like the one on NI now and even then it might not include Legacy.Fannon wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 7:06 am Maybe I shouldn't have been mentioned it as it was misunderstood by asking for backward compatible.

I actually have the opposite, I cannot think of any product right now where this is not the case...vurt wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 12:56 pm i can't think of any product, where you buy a later version, and get the previous versions free.

As Urs said, Zebra Legacy Will be maintained, its not like its going to be abandoned, thats what you are paying for and thats why its a separate product

almost any physical object? like automobiles, refrigerators, computers, etc.
but yeah, some software makers let you access previous versions, but certainly not all.

That's maybe true for major updates/upgrades of the same synth, but Zebra 2 and 3 are completely different and separate. It would be like getting Massive when purchasing Massive X.
