How large is the file size on tonex user profiles? Also, unlike Amplitube presets, I'm having a hard time finding my downloaded user profiles on my computer (mac). I would like to transfer my presets and downloaded profiles from my laptop to the studio.

Hi, there is a library.db file in your Documents/Ik Folder/Tonex on both mac and pc that seems to store the downloaded profiles and your favourited files..
Has made it easy for me to transfer between mac and pc often.

zvenx is correct. That's how I've been syncing them. Wish there was a cloud option where tone.net kept track of what we wanted and could sync it up between systems, but this is still a young product. Maybe some day.

Oh so they are in a single file! I was looking for my presets by name (which is how I find / transfer my amplitube presets). Thanks Zvenx! So I guess the user profiles must be really small file size? My library.db is only 19.6mb!
Also, any tips for searching tonenet? Any user groups or people known for producing quality captures? I was sorting by "likes" but realized that most likes does not necessarily mean best quality. Could just be that they were first and got a ton of likes early on. I also found their "weekly top likes" https://www.tone.net/tonex/top10 but again its based on likes and limited to how many in a week. I'm currently limited to the 20 downloads from CS and was hoping get a few really good models before I hit my limit and I already wasted a few figuring out the software!

Funkybot does have a few nice ones...so does Blackend Dove (though his clean ones are very very quiet).
But yeah it is hard.
And I usually start from their top 10.

Over on Gearspace some people recommended the captures from someone who labels them starting with "UR". If you search ToneNet for "UR" I think you'll find them, he has a ton of captures that sound good (especially "UR Vintage Vox").LGK_Dude wrote: Wed Feb 01, 2023 4:44 pm Oh so they are in a single file! Haven't seen this discussed on KVR yet:

Sounds like it will be debuted in 2 weeks on the 16th.

It must be this guy? https://www.tone.net/tonex/users/urzeitseangm wrote: Wed Feb 01, 2023 4:54 pm Over on Gearspace some people recommended the captures from someone who labels them starting with "UR". Does make me wonder when I see such a wide number of different of amps profiled that if these are captures of real amps or not. Looking at the comments on specific profiles he has made, it looks like he is profiling digital signal chains, as some of his presets include Scheps73 EQ for example. Not necessarily a bad thing if it sounds good I guess.

Thanks Peter! Its great you can link directly to users you like. Any other suggestions on people to follow?
Also, anyone find any good profiles for acoustic electric guitar amps? Doesnt seem to be an official category on Tone.net.

Here are mine...
Find the folks doing good captures. The UR ones are generally very high quality. TMS profiles has some good stuff (prefixed TMS), 9Nino9, amalgamaudio, MTStudios, DeanWinter, etc. Some people like mine. If you have questions about any, feel free to ask.
But I'm not heavy, heavy amp guy. More of an indie rocker/classic rock player. So the metal community might follow totally different folks for all I know.
Every few days, I check for new stuff. And at this point, I have so many captures, that I'll only audition one if it's an amp I think I might want to add/wished I owned in real life, and even then, if it doesn't sound good to my ear, I'm not going to download.
The filters are your friend: if you don't want to deal with IR's, then maybe you want to filter on Amps+Cabs only. Some people may want the NoCab options only, so they'll filter on amps, as they audition through an IR player. Maybe you want to spend a day looking for Stomps or auditioning Fuzzes...
Then combine the filters with text searches. Tone.net lets you search by uploader name (oddly, that's not offered in the non-Tone.net section of TONEX). So you can search for Amps+Cabs combined with "BlackenedDove" for example. Once you find a really great one, be sure to Favorite it in TONEX. If you like a lot of captures from a few uploaders, then you can log into the tone.net website and "follow" that person to get notified when they release new captures.
It's also wise to search for amp names IMO. I went looking for "Gemini" the other day to see if anyone did an Ampeg Gemini and found some for the Gemini II. I was happy.
Likes can be useful, particularly if something has a lot of likes in a short time. That's usually a sign of a good capture. But there's some great stuff out there with lower likes. Particularly in the lower gain side of the spectrum.
If you're going to look for stomps, I'd recommend doing that in AT5 using the Stomp slot, or running two instances of TONEX in your DAW, so one is an amp and another is the stomp. Just to add some context. Stomps usually sound terrible solo with no amp sim.
Also...try different guitars!!! I've heard some horrible, horrible captures only to change from a Les Paul to a Strat and suddenly it sounds great. And vice versa. A profile made on a bright Jazzmaster or Jaguar with 1meg pots will sound awful with a Les Paul with PAFs. The TONEX presets allow you to flag the guitar type and pickup configuration, but they should've added that to the captures themselves IMO. Sometimes it's a huge factor in how an amp sounds and behaves. So I never assume a capture is bad, I just figure I'm not playing the right guitar with it.
Last TONEX tip is the most important IMO: use the Gain knob in the amps to hit the front-end harder. The capture process wants HOT signals close to clipping. If folks are following that, the capture levels are very hot. But it's not recommended to record your guitars that close to 0dbfs. So use the Gain knob in TONEX boosted a bit to get it closer to how it was captured. This can be a huge difference with some captures. At the input levels I use, the Gain knob is generally set to about 7.4 here.
Hope that helps!

Also, I just said this on Gearspace, but I wish TONEX had a tag for "Capture Type" or "Source Type" with options for things like:
Hardware (Analog/Solid State amps, fx)
Software (virtual amps, fx, etc.)
Hybrid (hardware modeler, profilers, etc.)
That way users would know what they're getting in a capture. I probably go over the top with the documentation on my own captures, but that's because I wish everyone was as thorough so people would know what they're getting.
